After making a larger version of this bag, I designed a small, keychain size to use as a mini backpack or purse accessory! It's the perfect instant-gratification project for owl lovers out there. Check out the Mini Magic-Owl Bag!
The Mini Magic-Owl Pouch is a no-sew pouch for holding small trinkets and tiny treasures when exploring the forest. It’s nifty, eco-friendly, can be attached to a keyring or keychain, and used as a backpack or purse accessory. The design features textured puff stitches made of dc clusters for the owl’s belly, big round eyes, and colored wings.
Oh, and check it out - the top can be pulled up to reveal the bag's opening!
About the Pattern
- No-sew (except for embroidering the beak)
- Quick to work up
- Suitable for familiar beginners or intermediate crocheters
- Style & aesthetic: whimsical, woodland, forest, mori girl, fantasy, magical, cottagecore
- Makes a perfect birthday gift or Christmas holiday gift for animal lovers or owl enthusiasts
Customization
Play with different yarn color combinations to get different appearances for your owl! You can also use mainly white yarn to crochet Hedwig from Harry Potter.
Yarn
Worsted weight (#4) yarn is recommended for this pattern. I used Hobbii Portobello yarn, which comes in beautiful shades! Other yarn recommendations I have for this pattern include:
- Lion Brand Heartland (100% acrylic and has many natural, heathered shades that would give a similarly rustic vibe)
- Lion Brand's 24/7 Cotton Yarn (100% cotton and will produce beautiful stitch definition)
- Brava Worsted (100% acrylic, sturdy, and pretty good bang for your buck!)
Large Version Available
A larger version is available! The original Magic-Owl Bag is great as a crossbody bag and can hold more daily essential items! You can use it as a phone carrier and also throw in items like a comb, hand sanitizer, lip balm, chapstick, mints, gum, and more. I think they're both so cute!
