Any owl lovers here? What about bag lovers? Well, here's a nice combination of the two... check out my latest crochet pattern design, the Magic Owl Bag!
The Magic-Owl Bag is a no-sew crossbody bag for holding small trinkets and tiny treasures when exploring the forest. It’s nifty, eco-friendly, and useful. The strap’s length can be easily adjusted and the design is customizable with endless color combinations. The design features textured puff stitches made of dc clusters for the owl’s belly, big round eyes, and colored wings.
Oh, and check it out - the top can be pulled up to reveal the bag's opening!

Customization
Play with different yarn color combinations to get different appearances for your owl! You can also use mainly white yarn to crochet Hedwig from Harry Potter.
Yarn
Worsted weight (#4) yarn is recommended for this pattern. I used Hobbii's Upcycled Alpaca Blend, which is a limited edition and unfortunately may be discontinued in the near future. Other yarn recommendations I have for this pattern include:
- Lion Brand Heartland (100% acrylic and has many natural, heathered shades that would give a similarly rustic vibe)
- Lion Brand's 24/7 Cotton Yarn (100% cotton and will produce beautiful stitch definition)
- Brava Worsted (100% acrylic, sturdy, and pretty good bang for your buck!)
Mini Version Available
A smaller version is available! The Mini Magic-Owl Bag is great as a backpack or purse accessory to hold smaller items, such as hand sanitizers, lip balms or chapsticks, mints, gum, and more. I think they're both so cute!

Level of Difficulty:
★★★☆☆ Familiar Beginner/Intermediate. Requires familiarity with stitches used (below), attaching yarn.Stitches/Terms Used:
- FO = fasten off
- YO = yarn over
- ch = chain
- sl st = slip stitch
- sc = single crochet
- inc = increase (insert 2 sc in same st)
- dec = decrease (sc 2 sts together)
- dc = double crochet
- dc-inc = double crochet increase (2 dc in same st)
- dc-dec = double crochet decrease (dc 2 sts together)
Materials:
- Medium weight 4 yarn in desired colors (Recommended yarn: Heartland, 24/7 Cotton Yarn, Brava Worsted)
- 4mm crochet hook (these are my fav)
- 18mm plastic safety eyes (x2) or buttons
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
