Whims Merino Yarn Review · A Crocheter's Honest Thoughts

Hi fellow yarn enthusiasts,

I'm eager to write about my experience with the Whims Merino Crochet Yarn and share a crochet pattern featuring this yarn, along with some free patterns that would look fantastic with it!

Color Selection

Firstly, this line of yarn offers a beautiful variety of colors that range from soft and muted to vibrant and bold.  I had picked out a few for my amigurumi project, and found that the white, pink, and lavender went together beautifully!  I also got the periwinkle and light grey, and am excited to design another project using those colors.

Texture & Feel

I've never crocheted with merino yarn before, and by golly....this felt like my fingers were touching a dream!  The crochet experience was really wonderful -- the yarn was so silky smooth, my hook seemed to just slip easily into each of the stitches.  It was very enjoyable to work with, to say the least.

I was also quite happy with the texture and feel of the yarn in my finished doll.  The fibers are so soft to the touch, and that stitch definition is truly unreal!  Each stitch seems so clear and crisp...even the simplest stitches, such as the repeating double crochets on my bunny's dress, look gorgeous.

In terms of wearable patterns, I've read that the Whims Merino has amazing drape and adds a "lovely, airy bounce to your garments and drapes luxuriously without the need for blocking"...which I can totally believe after working with it for amigurumi.

Pro's in a Nutshell

  • Easy to work with, as the hook seems to simply glide into each stitch with ease
  • Gorgeous color options to choose from
  • Feels super luxurious, both during the process of crocheting and on the finished object
  • Has amazing stitch definition that will stand out beautifully with both simple stitches and complex stitch patterns

What to make the Whims Merino with...

As you can see with my amigurumi project above, this yarn works well with toys and stuffies!  However, it's also lovely with clothing and accessories that benefit from an amazing drape, a light and airy bounce, or a warm and soft feel!
