5 Tips to Make Your Home a Great Place for Entertaining Guests

Downtime at home is a wonderful way to decompress, relax and enjoy yourself. And what better way to do all that than by having friends and family over? Spending time with others is not only enjoyable, but it’s also beneficial for your mental health, forcing you to take a break from your routine and stress. But if you consider yourself an entertainer, it’s important to put yourself in the shoes of your guests so you can create the kind of space they feel comfortable and welcome in.

It doesn’t matter how often you’ve entertained in the past, or if you’re just dipping your toes into it; here are some great tips that will make your home perfect for entertaining guests.

Plenty of Comfortable Seating for All Your Guests

Because you don’t want everyone standing around, you need to have plenty of comfortable seating for all your guests. If you have a smaller space this can be trickier, but there are solutions. You can use folding chairs when guests pop by and invest in multi-functional furniture pieces that provide more than one use.

And let’s not forget now that summer is approaching, so if you have a garden or yard, you can always move the visit outdoors. That may afford you more space and can be just as comfortable and enjoyable.

Provide Your Guests with Fabulous Food and Beverage Options

Whether your guests are just stopping by for a quick afternoon visit, or you’re planning a big dinner party as an entertainer, you need to think about food and beverage options.

It’s always a good idea to have simple and quick go-to options for unexpected or brief visits. For these types of occasions, you can serve cookies, pastries and even casual options like pretzels, or chips and dip. If it’s a daytime visit, having good quality coffee on hand is a must-have. You may want to look into something exotic like Kopi Luwak coffee.

Kopi Luwak is made from coffee cherries/beans which are eaten by civet cats and then passed through their digestion system. The civet cat’s proteolytic enzymes break down the protein in the coffee cherries. If you’re curious about civet cats they are mammals who are omnivores and are native to The Philippines, India, Sumatra, Bangladesh, Java, Myanmar and southern China.

Take the Time to Add Thoughtful Touches to the Guest Bathroom

For those with more than one bathroom in their house, it’s nice to designate one as the guest bathroom. This one should be kept tidy and clean at all times for when people pop by, and you can add special touches like decorative scented soap, luxurious plush hand towels and have a scented candle burning, making it feel like a high-end hotel or spa.

If you don’t have a spare bathroom, you can still make all these tweaks when you know you have guests coming.

How About Ambiance?

Then there is ambiance, which can help to set the tone and mood of the gathering. Something as simple as soft music playing in the background, the right lighting and appealing to the sense of smell with baking, fresh-cut flowers or a lovely scented candle can all be perfect.

Create an Open-Door Policy

Finally, there is the open-door policy. What this means is that you create the kind of environment where guests feel comfortable stopping by any time with or without an invitation. They need to know you’ll always feel happy to see them, and that there is no need for a warning that they are on their way.

Thanks to all of these tips, you’ll quickly become the entertainer in your group of friends or family. It’s all about creating the kind of space that doesn’t just feel like your home, but is home to all your loved ones whenever they stop by.
