Kitty Cat Macaron · Free Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

If you love sweet treats, this crochet project is for you! Here's the Kitty Cat Macaron -- an adorable kitten cookie with a colorful flower crown. I'm excited to share this pattern for FREE with you, so that you can make your own!

LINKS

The Kitty Cat Macaron is an amigurumi dessert that works up quickly! It's beginner-friendly and requires familiarity of the basic amigurumi stitches. You'll have lots of fun customizing this project with your favorite colors. Which flavor will your macaron be?

Look at mine with that pink, strawberry filling. Yummmm!

About the Pattern

  • Easy / beginner-friendly
  • Works up quickly
  • Stashbuster project; great for using up leftover yarn scraps
  • Suitable to make into a keychain if using thinner yarns and a smaller hook

Uses

There are many ways to make use of this pattern, such as:
  • Gift: They are great as presents for different occasions. You can give it to family and friends as a birthday gift, Valentine's Day gift, Teacher Appreciation gift, Christmas holiday gift, and more.
  • Craft fair product: Sell it at markets! They're great year-round, especially in the Spring season.
  • Random Act of Kindness: Want to crochet this for charity or as a random act of crochet kindness? It'll be so fun to hide this delightful dessert around the community. Imagine the joy that people will experience when they discover this sweet amigurumi.
  • Keychain: If you used medium weight (or thinner) yarn, you'll have a smaller version of this macaron at about 2.5 inches, which makes a great keychain size! Just add a keyring to the top, and you're all set.

Yarn

This pattern is designed with super bulky weight chenille velvet yarn. I used Hobbii's Toucan yarn, which is a 100% polyester fiber that produces a soft and plush amigurumi.

If you'd like a smaller version of this pattern, you're welcome to use thinner yarns and a smaller hook. Using other types of fibers can produce a different look as well! For instance, cotton and acrylic yarns tend to result in crisp and clear stitch definition.

FO with a long tail for sewing later.

    MACARON TOP

    Use off-white yarn.

Repeat R1-R8 of the Macaron Bottom. (Do not crochet R9.)

FO and weave in the ends.

    EARS (x2)

    Start with off-white yarn.

R1: Ch 2, insert 6 sc in the 2nd ch from hook. (6)

    R2: (Sc, inc) x 3. (9)

    R3: (Sc 2, inc) x 3. (12)

    R4: Sc around. (12)

FO with a long tail for sewing later.

    FLOWERS (x3)

    Use pink/purple/blue yarn.

R1: Ch 6, sl st in 6th ch from hook. In that same st you just worked into, insert: (ch 4, sl st) x 4. (5 petals)

FO with a long tail for sewing later.

    FINISHING

    1. Gather all your crocheted pieces: Macaron Top & Bottom, Ears (x2), Flowers (x3).
    2. Insert 16mm glitter eyes between R3-R4 of the Macaron Top. Embroider eyelashes.
    3. Using thread/yarn, embroider a nose in pink and “X” for the mouth in black.
    4. Sew ears to the sides of the Macaron Top (R7).
    5. Arrange the flowers on the Macaron Top and sew them down.
    6. Sew the Macaron Top and Bottom pieces together. (I did so by going into the unworked back loops of the Top (R7) and the filling round of the Bottom (R9). Be sure to stuff the macaron before sewing it up completely.
