You should know that before going to another cosmetic store

Why is it important to read cosmetic labels?

Remember the feeling when you walk into a huge cosmetics store. It is not clear where to start the search and what to pay attention to, and consultants are constantly urging you to buy something. You bring home a beautiful jar, try it, and after a while you realize that the product does not improve the skin condition in any way. And sometimes it even brings problems: it dries, causes acne or allergies.

The next time you have to buy another tool, and so over and over again, until you get one that fits. Knowing your skin's needs and analyzing the information on the label can help if you want to speed up the process, save money, and find something that is more likely to fit your needs.

The label of a cosmetic product will tell you how the product works and what effect to expect from it, how long the product will last, how long it can be stored closed and open, how likely it is to cause allergies if you are prone to it.

What makeup can't fix

Makeup doesn't always help. Here are the cases in which it is most often powerless and what statements on the packages should not be made.

Scars and stretch marks. A scar or scar is a formation on the skin that occurs at the site of a deep cut, severe burn, or when tissue is stretched during pregnancy or rapid weight gain. Cosmetics cannot remove scars, as it works on the surface and in the uppermost layers of the skin and does not penetrate deep into. Exfoliators can only lighten the skin around the scar and thus make it less visible. A solution for scars can be laser scar removal in New York, which is a more effective way to get rid of scars and stretch marks. Laser removal works by breaking down the scar tissue and stimulating the production of collagen, resulting in smoother and more even skin.

Enlarged pores. Pores are small openings in the skin through which sebum and sweat enter the surface. Thanks to advertising and Photoshop, it seems to us that pores should not be visible on healthy skin, but this is not so. The size of the pores depends on heredity, the work of hormones, the condition of the skin and some skin diseases. So far, there is no proven way to reduce the size of pores and make them invisible. But gentle cleansing products, along with makeup with retinol or acids, and moisturizers can make pores less visible.

Fat production. The skin of the face and body constantly produces sebum, which prevents it from drying out and maintains the health of the upper layer. Some cosmetic ingredients can reduce the visibility of sebum on the surface of the skin: vitamin A, niacinamide or vitamin B3 and green tea. But so far there is no evidence that they affect the production itself. Therefore, most often the mark "reduces the production of sebum" has no scientific basis, you should not believe it. Mattifying agents also do not affect the skin's ability to produce oil, but they absorb it on the surface, which leaves the skin dry.

How to understand what your skin needs

With decorative cosmetics, everything is relatively simple: we know what color or product we need to achieve the effect. To even out skin tone, we choose tonal means to emphasize the eyes or lips, we go in search of mascara, shadows, pencils and lipstick.

With care cosmetics, everything is not so obvious: it is not clear whether the skin needs a serum, cream, mask, or all at once. Therefore, before buying any products, determine the condition of the skin and the problems that concern you.

Is it right to choose the right product for your skin type?

Dermatologists continue to categorize skin into dry, oily, combination, normal, and sensitive skin types. Many publications also use these skin types, and there are articles that show the correlation of certain physiological measurements with skin type.

Of course, this is a very simplified system. In fact, the skin is more complex and different parts of it can be of different types. Therefore, we cannot say that one person has only one type of skin in general. In addition, normal skin is very rare - it is an almost non-existent ideal. Most products are divided by skin type, but in general, this can be guided. Despite the fact that the division is quite archaic, it has a scientific basis.

Before you go in search of a cherished jar, stand in front of a mirror and examine your skin. Evaluate what exactly you want to correct, as well as how the skin feels.

Choose one of the two statements in each item and consider each of them when choosing a product in the store. For example, if you have dry skin with wrinkles and age spots, and discomfort is extremely rare, then you do not have to choose products for sensitive skin. Focus on those that work with your type of problems: dryness, wrinkles, spots. If the skin is oily, without wrinkles and pigmentation, but irritation often appears, look for products for sensitive oily skin.

The condition of the skin can change depending on the season, as well as some other diseases and their treatment. For example, in winter, the skin becomes drier and more sensitive due to its tendency to dehydrate. That’s the reason why you need proper skincare routine. Look for quality products like Biologi serum skincare.

This approach will help narrow down the search among the variety of cosmetic products and save you from unnecessary expenses. When a customer doesn't know what problem they want to solve with a product, they're more likely to buy something that won't work in the end.
