Welcome to Sweet Softies' sixth annual Creator Challengefeaturing Betty the Butterfly!  She's a pretty little mariposa designed to be a fun and beginner-friendly crochet project that you can easily customize with different color combinations, creative details, and more!  If you haven't already, check out the Intro Page for rules and important information about this Creator Challenge.  

For this section, we will be crocheting the Legs & Body.

Part 2: Legs & Body

LEGS (x6)

  1. Start with several inches of a yarn tail (which will be used for tying later).
  2. Ch 5, sl st in 2nd ch from hook. Sl st 3.
  3. FO with several inches of a yarn tail.


BODY

Note: As you crochet the body, attach the six legs by pulling the yarn ends through the stitches and knotting them inside. First pair: between R3-R4. Second pair: between R8-R9. Third pair: R11.

R1: Insert 6 sc in MR. Pull ring tight. (6 sts)

R2: Inc around. (12 sts)

R3: (Sc, inc) x 6. (18 sts)

R4: (Sc 2, inc) x 6. (24 sts)

R5-R6: Sc around. (24 sts)

R7: (Sc 6, dec) x 3. (21 sts)

R8: Sc around. (21 sts)

R9: (Sc 5, dec) x 3. (18 sts)

R10: (Sc 4, dec) x 3. (15 sts)

R11: (Sc 3, dec) x 3. (12 sts)

FO with a long tail for sewing to the head later. Stuff the body well.
