Lolita Headband · Free Crochet Pattern

Who's ready to crochet a sweet and lovely accessory for your little one?

Here's my newest design, the Lolita Headband!  It's a dainty, Victorian-style headband that gives off both a cute and romantic vibe.  It also has a vintage flair.  This piece features three layered roses, two bows, and lacy edging.

This fun stashbuster crochet project can be used with scrap yarns.  It can also look adorable year-round, and be worn during Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter!

Customization

You can easily customize it with different yarn colors as well.  For instance, if you crochet it with black and white yarns, it'll have a maid or gothic style look to it!  Perfect for maid cosplay or Halloween costumes.

You can also crochet just the headband portion without the flowers and bows, for a simpler look too:

Sizing

The pattern is written as one size to fit babies and toddlers.  However, it can be adjusted to fit larger head sizes (e.g., kids/children, adults), simply by adding more starting chains to the base of the headband to make it longer.

Yarn

I used 100% acrylic yarn with Caron Simply Soft yarn, though you are welcome to use a different fiber (such as cotton) if you'd like.  I recommend using medium weight yarn for this project.  If you use a thinner yarn and a smaller hook, your project will come out smaller than mine, and if you use a thicker yarn with a larger hook, it'll come out larger.

Hook: Odyssey Hook from Furls Crochet
Scissors: Unicorn Scissors from DarnGoodYarn

Make this project for...

...that little princess in your life!  I think this headband makes a beautiful gift for baby girls.  It can also be great for baby showers, birthdays, Christmas and holidays, as a craft fair product, or as photography props for newborn or child photographers.

ROSE (x3)

Use dark pink yarn and the 5mm hook.
  1. Foundation #1: In MR, sc 5. Join with a sl st to the first sc.
  2. Petal Layer #1: *(Ch 1, dc 3, ch 1, sl st) in same st to create a petal. Sl st in next st* repeat around in each of the 5 sc. This yields 5 petals.
  3. Foundation #2: *Ch 3 and turn the flower over to its backside. Sl st in the furthest loop in petal from your hook* around, creating 5 ch-3 foundation gaps.
  4. Petal Layer #2: *Sl st, ch 1, dc 4, ch 1, sl st* in each of the ch-3 gaps.
  5. FO with a long tail for sewing later.

FO with a long tail, pull ring tight, and wrap tail around the center of the bow.

STRAPS

Note: A video tutorial is available for this section.

Use light pink yarn and the 6mm hook.
  1. Start with a long tail of about 6 inches, then ch 20.
  2. Position the headband with the wrong side facing up. Insert hook to the very side of the main headband section (not the lace). YO, then pull through with a sl st.
  3. Continue using the surface sl st technique across the entire headband, going through the center of the headband from one side to the next.
  4. At the end, ch 20.
  5. FO with a long tail of about 6 inches to match the starting tail.

  1. Arrange the three roses on the headband, with one at the very center.
