Pregnant Avocado Amigurumi (Free Crochet Pattern)

Dear fellow crocheters,

Please meet... *drumroll*... Miss Pregnant Avocado! 🥑

    Links

I designed this mother-to-be avocado as a prop for my own pregnancy announcement.  I had decided to share my news on social media just a couple days ago, at 24 weeks pregnant.  Here's how it looked!

Isn't it sweet how this cheerful avocado half is cradling her belly bump (the seed) as she patiently awaits the birth of her precious baby?

Other than utilizing it as a creative pregnancy announcement prop, I thought it'd make a cute gift for any expecting mom with a bun in the oven too!

This avocado amigurumi is a relatively quick and easy crochet project.

It really only has two parts -- the top half and the bottom half!

After having fun with adding details, like the eyelashes, mouth, and arms, you get to sew the two portions together!

You can also easily customize your own avocado by using different appliques or embellishments.  I happened to think she looked pretty cute with a bow, so a bow it was!

    Crochet Instructions

    Important Note (Read before beginning!)
    • The ‘Seed Pit’ and ‘Top Portion’ are crocheted as one piece.  Do not fasten off unless the pattern states to do so.
    Seed Pit (Belly)
    Start with brown yarn.
    R1: In MR, sc 6. (6 sts)
    R2: Inc around. (12 sts)
    R3: (Sc, inc) x 6. (18 sts)
    R4: (Sc 2, inc) x 6. (24 sts)
    R5-R6: Sc around. (24 sts)
Without fastening off, continue with the avocado’s top portion.

    Top Portion (Face)
    Switch to yellow yarn.
    R7: In FLO: (sc 3, inc) x 6. (30 sts)
    R8: (Sc 4, inc) x 6. (36 sts)
Sl st in next st. Fasten off.
Count back 16 sts and attach yarn to the 16th sc from where you fastened off. We will now work in rows.
R9: Ch 1, turn. (When you turn your piece, you are working in the opposite direction, so flip your avocado around.) Sc 8. (8 sts)
R10: Ch 1, turn. Dec, sc 4, dec. (6 sts)
    R11: Ch 1, turn. Sc 6. (6 sts)
R12: Ch 1, turn. Dec, sc 2, dec. (4 sts)
    R13: Ch 1, turn. Dec 2. (2 sts)
    Switch to light green yarn.
R14: Ch 1, turn, sc around the entire top portion. Join with a sl st to the first sc.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
    Bottom Portion (Back)
    Start with dark green yarn.
    R1: In MR, sc 6. (6 sts)
    R2: Inc around. (12 sts)
    R3: (Sc, inc) x 6. (18 sts)
    R4: (Sc 2, inc) x 6. (24 sts)
    R5: (Sc 3, inc) x 6. (30 sts)
    R6: (Sc 4, inc) x 6. (36 sts)
    R7: Sc around. (36 sts)
R8: Sl st in next st. Ch 1, turn. (We will now work in rows.)  Sc in next st (not same st as the ch 1).  Sc 9. (10 sts)
R9: Ch 1, turn. Dec, sc 6, dec. (8 sts)
R10: Ch 1, turn. Dec, sc 4, dec. (6 sts)
    R11: Ch 1, turn. Sc 6. (6 sts)
R12: Ch 1, turn. Dec, sc 2, dec. (4 sts)
    R13: Ch 1, turn. Sc 4. (4 sts)
    R14: Ch 1, turn. Dec 2. (2 sts)
R15: Ch 1, turn. Sc around the entire bottom portion. Join with a sl st to the first sc.
R16: Ch 1, sc around. Join with a sl st to the first sc.
Fasten off with a long tail for sewing to the ‘Top Portion’ later.

    Finishing Instructions

    1. Add 6mm plastic safety eyes to your avocado. (I inserted mine between R9-R10 of the Top Portion, 5 sts apart.)
    2. Sew eyelashes, a mouth, arms, and hands using your yarn needle and scrap yarn.
    3. Using the long yarn tail from the bottom portion, sew it to the top portion.  I stitched into the back loops of the top portion. Be sure to stuff your avocado before you sew it up completely!
    4. If desired, add a bow and secure it with hot glue.

And that's it!  Congratulations on finishing your Pregnant Avocado!
