As a sweet gift for Valentine's this year from me to you, I present... Flora the Flamingo!
Flora Flamingo is a really quick-to-work-up amigurumi pattern that has two fluffy wings and dangly, long legs.
While this project is quite beginner-friendly, there is a bit of sewing required when putting the pieces together in the end. Feel free to check out my post on tips for sewing amigurumi pieces if you'd like!

Flora is the perfect ami plush to make for flamingo-lovers! She's also an attention grabber at summer markets if you plan to crochet to sell, especially if there's a tropical theme or beach theme to go with! This stuffed animal toy also makes a great gift for birthdays, baby showers, and as nursery or kids room decor.
Yarn used
To make your flamingo exactly like mine, try going with some chunky chenille velvet yarn and a large (5mm) hook. I used Hobbii's Honey Bunny Yarn, perfect for this soft and cuddly toy. This doll design also looks great with blanket yarn and polyester yarns, though you can also use other fibers like cotton and acrylic as well.
A good substitute is Baby Snuggle Yarn, which I do use interchangeably with the Honey Bunny! They are both so similar in texture and feel. I've written a Baby Snuggle Yarn Review, which contains more information about that yarn.
If you use "regular" worsted weight yarn (paired with a smaller, 2.75mm hook), you can create a miniature baby flamingo! Use thread and you can make a fantastic flamingo keychain.

- Honey Bunny yarn (super bulky “6”) in pink, white, and grey

HEAD & BODY
Use pink yarn.R1: Ch 2. Insert 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (8)
R2: Inc around. (16)
R3: (Sc, inc) x 8. (24)
R4: (Sc 3, inc) x 6. (30)
R5-R9: Sc around. (30)
Insert 12mm eyes between R7-R8, 7 sts apart. Stuff the head, neck, and body as you work.
R10: Dec around. (15)
R11-R13: Sc around. (15)
R14: (Sc 4, inc) x 3. (18)
R15: Sc around. (18)
R16: (Sc 2, inc) x 6. (24)
R17: (Sc 3, inc) x 6. (30)

Switch to white yarn.
R3: Sc 2, inc 2, sc 2. (8)
R4: Sc around. (8)
FO with a long tail for sewing to the head later.
WINGS (x2)

R1: Ch 4. Insert 12 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with a sl st to the first dc. (12)
R2: Ch 3, dc around. Join. (12)
R3: Fold the piece flat. Ch 1 and sc across both front and back layers with 6 sts. (6)
R4: Ch 1, turn. Sc across. (6)
Switch to white yarn.
R5: (Ch, hdc in first st, ch, sl st in next st) x 3.
FO and weave in the ends.
LEGS (x2)
Note: Video tutorial for this section is available here.Use grey yarn.
- Starting with a slightly long tail (for weaving in later), ch 18.
- Sl st in 2nd ch from hook. Sl st in each of the next 2 ch. This creates the first toe.
- Ch 4, sl st in 2nd hook. Sl st in each of the next 2 ch. Sl st back into the main ch. This creates the second toe.
- Repeat #3 for the third toe.
- Sl st in each ch on the main ch, going back to the starting point.
- FO with a long tail for sewing later.
FINISHING
- Lightly stuff the beak. Sew it to the front of the head. (I positioned my flamingo’s beak over R7 and R8.)
- Cut some pink yarn and sew the wings to both sides of the body.
- Sew both of the legs to the bottom of the body.
- Stuff the “butt” portion. Sew it to the back of the body (see photo references in the paid PDF pattern).
- Weave in all ends.
