How to Build a Morning Routine That Works for You

Mornings aren’t exactly everyone’s favourite time of day. For many people, mornings are associated with rushing around, trying to get dressed and out the door on time, dealing with a case of grumpiness, and trying to shake off a feeling of tiredness as you head to work. Here’s the thing, mornings don’t have to be this way. You can take steps that will ensure your day kicks off right. Here are some ways you can build a morning routine that works for you.

Lay Out Your Clothing the Night Before

Are you guilty of standing in front of your wardrobe each morning, trying hard to come up with the “perfect outfit”, only to realise you’re now running late? This is one of the most common snags that people can run into with their morning routine and there’s a really simple fix. Get into the habit of laying out your clothing the night before. You may need to try on items, or experiment with different combinations, all of which can be done before bed when you’ve got extra time.

Try Showering Before Bed Rather than the Morning

Another huge time saver is to start showering in the evening before you go to bed. This will leave you refreshed feeling, which can help with sleep better, and save you time the next morning.

Leave Plenty of Time for Breakfast Each Day

If you’re in the habit of rushing out the door for work without taking the time to eat breakfast, then you’re doing yourself a huge disservice. As experts say all too often, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It provides you with important nutrients and calories that will perk you up, improve your mood, help you to focus, and get off to a positive start.

Try waking up 15 minutes earlier than you currently do so you have time for breakfast. If you’re still pressed for time, you can always embrace smoothies. With a good-quality smoothie maker, you can use fresh and/or frozen ingredients with ease. Smoothies are known for their nutritional value in terms of vitamins, nutrients, minerals, and even protein. You can even take your smoothie on the go with you in an insulated reusable cup. Be sure to check out breakfast smoothie recipes for ideas.

Nothing Beats a Traditional Alarm Clock

While you may be tempted to use your mobile device as your alarm clock, the fact is nothing beats a traditional alarm clock sitting on the night table next to your bed. An illuminated clock makes it easy to see the time and the sound these clocks are capable of producing is quite loud - enough to wake even the soundest of sleepers. Digital and analog alarm clocks are also multi-functional in that you can pick a stylish design that adds a sense of décor to the bedroom.

One tip when using an alarm clock is to resist the urge to purchase a model with a snooze button or make sure you don’t enable it or use it. The snooze feature can be a slippery slope as before you know it, you’ve hit it enough times that you’ll be running late. This means the morning will be off to a stressful and rushed start.

Don’t Let Yourself Get Distracted

The final tip is to resist distractions in the morning. Even harmless-seeming ones can throw you way off course and make you late for the day. Stick to your routine, and deal with any other issues after work when you get home.

Transform the Way You View Mornings

Using all of these tips will help you to create a morning routine that is smooth and enjoyable, transforming your mornings.
