Dear fellow crocheters,
I'd love to share with you my newest design, the Easy Lace Bonnet! Here is my sweet Lena Rose, enjoying the cozy hat.
This bonnet features beginner-friendly stitches that make a lovely stitch pattern when put together. It also has a scalloped lace edge and an area to insert a ribbon through. What I love about the design is that it's crocheted in one piece, requiring no sewing at all!
I used Caron Simply Soft yarn in the color "off white", which gave the bonnet a really simple yet classic look. I think a solid color really shows off the textured stitches beautifully, though it'd be fun to see the bonnet in multi-colored yarn too! I'd also like to mention that, after throwing the bonnet in the wash, it came out feeling even softer!
If you're thinking of making a sweet gift for a little baby in your life, I hope you'll give this project a go! It's easy to put on and wear. It's practical, comfortable, and keeps heads warm. Perfect for baby showers, birthdays, holidays, craft fairs, and not to mention -- your own little one!
The size I made is for my baby, though it can easily be adjusted to fit different head sizes! Check out my Hat Sizing & Measurements Reference Chart post to download the free printable chart.

0-6 months
Use medium weight yarn and a 6mm hook.
Note: We will begin by working in joined rounds.
R1: In a MR: ch 3, insert 12 dc. *Join with a sl st to the first dc. (12 dc)
R2: Ch 3, dc-inc around. *Join. (24 dc)
R3: Ch 3, (dc, dc-inc) x 12. *Join. (36 dc)
R4: Ch 3, (dc 2, dc-inc) x 12. *Join. (48 dc)
Note: At this point, the circle should measure about 5 inches across. We will now work in rows from here on out.
Sizing tip: to increase the height, continue working the pattern of increases after R4 until you reach a large enough circle.
R5: Ch 3, dc 40. Leave the last 8 sts unworked. (40 dc)
R6-R11: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in same st, sk next st. (Sc+dc in next st, sk next st) all the way across. Hdc in last st.
Sizing tip: to increase the length, continue adding more repeats of R11.
R12: Ch 4, turn. Tr in each st across. (40 tr)
R13: (Sk a st, 6-dc-shell in next st, sk a st, sc in next st) across. Sk a st, 6-dc-shell in next st.
Sc across the bottom edge of the bonnet for a neat look.
Fasten off. Weave a long ribbon through R12 of the bonnet.
