Hooded Bunny Capelet (Free Crochet Pattern)

Dear fellow crocheters,

My newest free pattern, the Hooded Bunny Capelet, is here!

The Hooded Bunny Capelet is an adorable accessory that is sure to keep your little one’s head and neck super cozy!

The size is quite versatile as it can fit newborn babies from 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 18 months, to smaller toddlers at 2 years old.

It features a sweet lace frill around the edges, and will make your baby or toddler look absolutely precious.

The two bunny ears are added on for extra cuteness, though you can opt out for a lighter headwear.

There is minimal sewing as the hood and capelet are done in one piece, with bunny rabbit ears crocheted separately and sewn on.

This capelet is warm and functional.  It is easy to put on and wear, and is the perfect clothing accessory for the stylish, little trendsetter in your life.

For this sweet, little project, I chose to use Lion Brand Coboo Yarn, in the colors 'Beige' and 'White', and couldn't be happier with the results!  It's very soft to work with, and provides beautiful stitch definition.  What's also great is that it's a natural fiber of 50% cotton and 50% bamboo!
You’ll have fun crocheting this special handmade gift for your little one, or as a sentimental and heartfelt newborn baby shower gift for an expecting mom.  It will surely be treasured for years to come~

Important Notes (Read before beginning!)
  • Visual references are available in the PDF pattern.
  • The hood is worked from the back of the head (in joined rounds) to the body of the hat (in rows). The frilly, lace section is then added to the edge of the hood, followed by the capelet portion.  The button straps and capelet edging are worked on next.  Finally, the ears are crocheted separately and sewn to the hood.
  • The starting chains ("Ch 2"or "Ch 1") do not count as a stitch.
  • “Dc-inc” means to insert two dc in the same stitch.

~ FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS ~

  1. Gather your crocheted pieces: Hood and capelet (one piece), ears (2 pieces).
  2. Using a yarn needle and the long yarn tail from the ears, sew them to the sides of the hood section.
  3. Select a button for the capelet and position it to the other side of the button strap.  You will want to position it so that the strap can hook over it tightly enough.  Sew the button down.
