I keep churning out no-sew patterns, because...why not?! If you're looking for a colorful, fun, and quick project to do, try out the latest in my no-sew amigurumi collection... the CANDY FISH!

The Candy Fish is an easy, no-sew amigurumi pattern that works up quickly. It's a great little project that you can use scrap yarns for!

I use five different yarn colors for my fish, with the sample below showing beige for the head and tail, and then a brick red, mustard yellow, yellowish-green, and forest green for the body.

  • Easy / beginner-friendly
  • Works up quickly
  • Easily customizable
  • Suitable to make into a keychain
  • About 3.75 inches in length with the recommended materials

Uses

There are many ways to make use of this pattern, such as:
  • Keychain: add a keyring
  • Cat toy: add some catnip inside to turn it into a cat toy! Be sure NOT to add plastic safety eyes to this fish if it's meant to be a cat toy, and supervise your cat at all times when playing with this toy in case of any hazard with swallowing yarn or stuffing.
  • Class Valentine's Day Present: since this is a fast project, you can whip up a school of fish for your child's entire class in no time!
  • Party favor: perfect as a goodie bag surprise for birthday parties
  • Gift: for family and friends as a birthday gift, Christmas holiday gift, or anytime gift!
  • Decor: make a little diorama by adding your Candy Fish into a fishbowl (or a transparent jar with a cork lid), and decorate it with some sand and seashells on the bottom. Would make a lovely gift for fish-lovers!
  • "Pocket pal" or fidget: suitable as a portable therapy aid or security toy for kids
  • Craft fair product: sell it at markets; it's the perfect market prep pattern to work up because it's quick and easy. Add it to your bargain basket or claw machine!
  • Random Act of Kindness: want to crochet this for charity or as a random act of crochet kindness? It'll be so fun to hide these Candy Fish around the community. Imagine the delight that people will experience when they discover this colorful creation.

Easy to Customize

This colorful crochet project can easily be customized in different ways. There are tips included in the pattern to make this a...
    • Shorter fish (goldfish)
    • Longer fish (sardine)
    • Fish with textured scales

Additionally, you can also crochet it with different yarn weights and fibers to create different looks!

    Yarn

Additionally, you can crochet the Candy Fish with different yarn weights and fibers to create different looks!  Want a jumbo fish? Use blanket yarn with a large hook! Want a tiny fish? Use thin yarn with a small hook!

If you're wanting to crochet a fish like mine, using medium weight / worsted weight acrylic or cotton yarns would be great choices. They provide crisp stitch definition and would make a durable keychain-sized amigurumi!

My worsted weight yarn recommendations are:
