Meadow Cardigan Dress (Free Crochet Pattern)

Dear fellow crocheters,

I'm thrilled to share my newest crochet pattern with you: the Meadow Cardigan Dress!

This sweet, little dress is is a lovely addition to any baby girl’s wardrobe.  It is perfect for the Spring and Summer seasons!

You can keep it as an open-flap cardi, or add buttons if you'd prefer!  With buttons, this can be worn as a short-sleeved cardigan with the opening in the front, or the other way around with the buttoned opening in the back as a dress.  Whichever way it's worn, it is guaranteed to be super cute!

This particular design features a beautiful, lacy pattern with a sweet and simple trim bordering the main color.  It is so much fun, easy to crochet with basic double crochet and chain stitches, yet yields a fancy-looking result!

I must also mention how much I loved working with this beautiful yarn, too! This is LB Collection® Cotton Bamboo Yarn, in the colors 'Snapdragon' and 'Magnolia'.

I previously tried out the 'Cherry Blossom' pink on my Rose Finch Capelet (Free Pattern) and loved it so much, that I knew I had to make more projects using this soft and durable Cotton Bamboo yarn!  This was definitely the perfect yarn for this sweet, little project.  I used one full skein of Snapdragon (green), and a partial skein of the Magnolia.

Anyhow, this is a relatively quick and easy pattern to work up, and it's done completely in one piece (no sewing)!  You’ll have fun crocheting this special handmade gift for your little one, or as a sentimental and heartfelt newborn baby shower gift for an expecting mom.  It will surely be treasured for years to come~

BORDER LACING

2.     Without fastening off, insert sc across the front flap of the dress, the top edge of the collar, and down the second front flap of the dress.  Sl st when you reach the end.
3.     Repeat steps #1 and #2.  Then, fasten off.
4.     Attach yarn to the sleeves portion and sc across the sleeve.  At the end, ch 1, turn, and sc back to the beginning.  Fasten off and repeat on the other side.

~ FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS ~

Note: For these button straps, use a 2.75mm hook and the contrast yarn color.
  1. Decide where you want the strap. Attach yarn. Ch 10 (or length to suit your button). Sl st to same st. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
  2. Repeat step #1 for the number of buttons you'll attach.
  3. Sew buttons to the other side.
  4. Loop the straps over the buttons, and you are done!
