Creator Challenge: Part 5 of 5

Dear fellow crocheters,

Welcome to Sweet Softies' second Creator Challenge, featuring Coral the Mermaid!  She's the perfect amigurumi doll to make this summer!  If you haven't already, check out the INTRO PAGE for rules and important information about this Creator Challenge.

PART 5

Arms & Finishing Touches

Let's Begin!

Arms (x2)

Note: The arms are made using the “i-cord” crochet technique. Scroll down or click here for my video tutorial

Start with skin color yarn.

Ch 3. Insert hook into 2nd ch from hook, YO, pull up a loop, insert hook into next ch, YO, and pull up a loop. (3 loops on hook)
R1: Drop 2 loops from hook, but hold onto them tightly with your non-hook hand so that they do not come undone. YO, pull through loop on hook. Insert hook into first dropped loop, YO, pull through. (2 loops on hook.) Insert hook into second dropped loop, YO, and pull through. (3 loops on hook)
R2-R7: Repeat R1.
To finish, YO and pull through all 3 loops on hook.

Fasten off with a long tail for sewing to the body later.

VIDEO TUTORIAL: How to Crochet the i-Cord

Finishing Directions

1. Gather your crocheted pieces. You should have the: (1) mermaid's head/body, (2) the hair cap and bun sewn together, and (3) two arms.  If you've missed any of these parts, please scroll down to check the "Timeline & Links for Coral's Pattern" to find directions to what you need.
    2. Sew the hair cap to your doll's head.

    3. Using strands of hair-colored yarn, sew bangs/fringe onto the doll's head.

    4. Using a yarn needle and the yarn tail from the arms, sew them onto the body.

    5. If desired, gently apply blush powder onto your doll’s cheeks using a q-tip. (Refer to my tutorial (written + video) with instructions and tips for applying blush to amigurumi.)

    6. Add embellishments or accessories to your mermaid, such as beads, ribbons, flowers, or more!
