There's been so much love for the original Star Baby pattern that I designed a couple months ago. I've been working on a mini version since then, and it's finally complete! Please welcome this low-sew, beginner-friendly, FREE mini star baby pattern!
The Mini Star Baby is a Waldorf-inspired doll that is low-sew, quick to work up, and comes with two variations to crochet! There's a "COMPACT" version and a "FLOPPY" version. Take a look below...
This amigurumi doll features a cute baby in a star shaped outfit and pixie hat. The arms and legs of the doll are soft and unstuffed, but it has a chubby body in the center.
They are SO cute, fast, and addiction to make.... you're going to want to make them in all the colors!
Make it a Baby Toy
There are two things you can easily add to the Star Baby doll to make it into a developmental baby toy that newborns are sure to love and be fascinated with! That includes: rattles, and crinkle sheets.
Rattle
A tiny rattle can be inserted into the head of the doll (for a louder sound), or in the body of the doll (for a softer volume) while crocheting those parts. You can "DIY" your own rattle by getting a very small plastic egg or container, filling it with dry rice or dry beans, and sealing the opening shut with a strong adhesive.
Crinkle Sheets
If you'd like to give your baby the joy of a very satisfying "crinkle" sound, you can add crinkle inserts into the limbs of the body. This would be done while working on the limbs, before closing off the piece with the final (fourth) limb.
Gifting
This doll makes a sweet baby shower gift or gift for an infant or newborn, as long as the eyes are embroidered. The reason for this is because plastic safety eyes, despite the word "safety" in its name, can potentially fall out if a child chews on it or plays roughly with it, and the small piece can serve as a choking hazard. To make it baby-safe, do NOT use plastic safety eyes!
The Star Baby also works well as a birthday gift or Christmas stocking stuffer for young children. You can make it for craft fairs and markets too! Having an array of star babies in different colors would look fantastic as an eye-catching display on your craft fair table!
Additionally, these (especially if you make the "compact" version of the doll) make great keychains, hanging ornaments, and bag charm accessories. You can use a keychain making kit to do so!

Recommended Yarn
This adorable amigurumi is designed with Posh Twist yarn, which is a super plush and soft bulky weight 5 yarn. This is the most durable and non-shedding chenille velvet yarn I've used, so I highly recommend it for projects that might be getting a lot of play and love!
While this pattern is designed with plush yarn for that plush, squishy look, you can also try it with other types of yarns, such as cotton or acrylic. If using a thinner yarn, your amigurumi will end up with a smaller finished size.
Pattern Test
As usual, this pattern has been tested by a team of crocheters ranging in experience to ensure that the pattern is error-free and easy to read for all! A variety of yarn types, yarn weights, colors, and finishing touches have been used to create unique looks!
Testers reported 32 minutes to 1 hour to complete the doll.
