After designing various Waldorf-inspired crochet dolls, I decided to create yet another. Please meet my new favorite... the Pajama Baby!
Pajama Baby is a 2-in-1 crochet doll pattern that is no-sew and quick to work up...the perfect "market prep" amigurumi!
It features a cute baby wearing a beanie hat or hood, as well as a soft pajama bodysuit with two options for finishing the feet: barefoot, or wearing footed jammies. Below is a look at the two foot variations:
The only optional sewing is to sew the hat to the doll if you choose to attach it, otherwise it's completely no-sew!
The arms and legs are soft and unstuffed, making it a cuddly snuggler especially if made using plush yarn. Customize it in many ways, such as:
- Using different yarn color combinations,
- Adding a rattle or crinkle sheet in the body as a baby toy,
- Embroidering facial features like a nose/smile, and
- Adding blush to the cheeks
Make it a Baby Toy
This doll makes a sweet baby shower gift or gift for an infant or newborn, as long as the eyes are embroidered to avoid choking hazard.
There are also two things you can easily add to the Pajama Baby doll to make it into a developmental baby toy that newborns are sure to love and be fascinated with! That includes: rattles, and crinkle sheets.
Rattle
A small rattle can be inserted into the head of the doll (for a louder sound), or in the body of the doll (for a softer volume) while crocheting those parts. You can either "DIY" your own rattle by getting a mini plastic egg or container, filling it with dry rice or dry beans, and sealing the opening shut with a strong adhesive. If you'd like to purchase a rattle, I recommend a round rattle for the head, and this cylindrical rattle for the body. You can also fit a couple round rattles into the body as well, instead of a cylindrical rattle!
Crinkle Sheets
If you'd like to give your baby the joy of a very satisfying "crinkle" sound, you can add crinkle inserts underneath the pajamas of the doll.
Gifting & Selling
This doll makes an incredibly sweet handmade baby shower gift! The Pajama Baby also works well as a birthday gift or Christmas stocking stuffer for kids. Remember to always embroider the eyes instead of using plastic safety eyes if the amigurumi is intended for young children, as they can be choking hazards.

Recommended Yarn
This adorable amigurumi is designed with Posh Twist yarn, which is a super plush and soft bulky weight 5 yarn. This is the most durable and non-shedding chenille velvet yarn I've used, so I highly recommend it for projects that might be getting a lot of play and love!
While this pattern is designed with plush yarn for that plush, squishy look, you can also try it with other types of yarns, such as cotton or acrylic. If using a thinner yarn, your amigurumi will end up with a smaller finished size. While it might not be a snuggly size for little ones, it can serve as a cute keychain, hanging ornament, or bag charm. To make a keychain, simply add clasps and rings with this inexpensive keychain making kit and you can clip the doll onto diaper bags, backpacks, purses, and more.
Pattern Test
As usual, this pattern has been tested by a team of crocheters ranging in experience to ensure that the pattern is error-free and easy to read for all! Testers reported taking just about 2 hours to complete the doll.

- Bulky weight 5 chenille velvet yarn in desired colors (I used Posh Twist yarn)
- 5mm crochet hook (I use these)
