The 2024 Creator Challenge will start on February 3rd and end on March 9th.  The full pattern will be shared for FREE on my YouTube channel, published in four parts according to the timeline.  The written instructions will be added to my blog later.  (See the 'Pattern Links' section for the release dates.)

About Daiyu the Dragon:

  • Daiyu is a Chinese name that means "generation/dynasty" and "jade"
  • This pattern is quick to work up
  • It's easily customizable
  • Comes with a color planning sheet
  • Uses scrap yarn (yay for stashbuster projects!)
  • Makes for a lovely gift
  • Comes with full step-by-step video tutorials for all parts
  • Also available as a printable PDF pattern with photo references

This little dragon is very excited to meet all his new siblings very soon.  Let's fill the crochet community with baby dragons!!

Interested in making one?  Read on for the FREE pattern links, rules, and important information pertaining to this Creator Challenge, or watch and listen to it in the video below!

Introduction

Creator Challenge is an event made up by Sweet Softies where crocheters can enter to:
  1. Join a CAL featuring one of my new pattern designs
  2. Complete the project
  3. Customize their creations however they'd like!

In this crochet-a-long (CAL), crocheters are encouraged to add their own unique flair to finish the doll.  This includes but isn't limited to different yarn colors, yarn fibers, embroidery details, and embellishments (e.g., appliques, beads, buttons, bows, flowers).  Allow yourself to be creative and most importantly, have fun!

All acceptable submissions (that follow the rules below) will be shown on my website (and possibly a YouTube video if I make one).  One submission will be handpicked by me for a prize!

Join the Community

Participants are encouraged to share work in progress (WIP) photos in the Sweet Softies FB Group, or add your projects to Ravelry

Don't want to wait for each week?  You can get this pattern as a printable, ad-free PDF pattern (which includes two ear options) that is instantly available for download, and supports me as a designer!

PDF Pattern

  • Don't want to wait for all CAL instructions?
  • Prefer a written pattern over video instructions?
  • Want photo references?
  • Want to also make the webbed ear option (instead of only the free, no-sew ear option)?

  3. You may use any yarn color, fiber, and weight. You can use any hook size.
  4. You may add any extra embellishments you'd like, such as (but not limited to): beads, buttons, embroidery.

  6. Entries must be submitted by: March 9th, 2024 at 11:59pm PST.

How to Submit Entries

Your entry will not count unless it has the hashtag below. (I must be able to find it to include it!)
  • Submit a photo of your finished doll on the Sweet Softies Facebook Group with the tag: #sweetsoftiescreatorchallenge
