January is often described as a grey month in the Pacific Northwest. I live in the Seattle area, and the city experiences a lot of cloudy and rainy days this time of the year. The skies are often overcast, creating a gloomy and subdued atmosphere. The lack of sunlight can sometimes make the days feel long and dreary.
So, to combat that, I've decided to bring some color into my craft and throw some vibrant colors into my newest amigurumi doll! It helps that my daughter's favorite color is "rainbow" (she's indecisive like me, haha)...so she was the main inspiration for this new low-sew doll design. Meet Prism, the Rainbow Doll! She wears a colorful dress and a matching hair bow.
About the Pattern
- No-sew for the doll base and clothing
- Low-sew project overall (only need to sew the hair cap to the head, and the bow to the hair)
- Great stashbuster project for using up small skeins or yarn scraps in different colors
- Height is approximately 8.5 inches
- Same hook size for the entire project
- Same type of yarn for the entire project
- Super versatile and customizable, with endless color combinations
- The PDF pattern includes over 50 in-line progress photos
- Style: rainbow, Pride (LGBTQIA+), whimsical, pop, kawaii
Recommended Yarn
Medium weight yarn is used for this project, though you can use bulkier or thinner yarn weights if desired! Remember that thinner yarn weights require a small hook size, and will result in a smaller doll...whereas thicker yarn weights require a larger hook size, and will result in a larger doll.
My favorites to work with are acrylic and cotton yarns for these types of amigurumi dolls. For this project specifically, I used the Amigo XL Yarn from Hobbii.
I'm also a fan of the following and think they'd be very suitable for this project!
Uses
- Pretend play toy for children
- Selling at craft fairs, markets, or boutiques
- For charity or random acts of kindness
- Birthday gift or holiday gift
- Christmas stocking stuffer
Low-Sew
Prism's head, body, arms, and legs are all crocheted in one piece. The only sewing that is required is for her braided pigtail hair cap, and for her bow, making this a very low-sew project.
