Lace Headband · Free Crochet Pattern

Hello my fellow crocheters,

I crocheted this super quick and simple headband for my baby girl using one of my favorite stitch patterns...and I just love it! I had to share it with you, because this is seriously such an easy make that will take 10 minutes (or less!) to crochet.

This Headband Design is...

  • Quick to work up
  • Beginner-friendly
  • One piece (no sewing)
  • Minimalist
  • Vintage
  • Versatile and can be made with different types of yarn weights, fibers, colors, and crochet hook sizes
  • Oh, and I mustn't forget to mention...it comes with a full video tutorial!

I just love making accessories for my baby girl.  I find this minimalistic styled headband to have such a sweet, dainty look.

One of my friends recommended that I crochet one for myself as well, because matching Mommy-and-Me accessories are just too cute!!  I think I'll go for it, because as busy as I am with an infant, I can spare 10 minutes to whip up another headband!

I made it a couple of different ways -- with light weight (3) yarn and also with medium weight (4) yarn.  Here's the one I crocheted using medium weight yarn that is 100% cotton.

~ CROCHET INSTRUCTIONS ~

HEADBAND

  1. Make an even number of chains to match the length that you’d like for your headband.  (For reference, I made 64 chains to reach a 12” length for my baby girl’s head size.)
Note: Use the Hat Sizing & Measurements Reference Chart for average head circumferences of different age groups.
  2. Ch 2 more.
  3. In 3rd ch from hook, insert a hdc. (Sk a st, sc+dc in next st) across. Insert hdc in last st.
  4. Ch 1, insert a sc in the side of the headband. Then insert sc across each of the chains along the bottom of the headband. Insert a sc in the other side of the headband.
  5. FO with a long tail to use as a “tying strap.”
  6. Attach yarn to the other end of the headband, making sure it’s as long as the other side.  Tie it securely, then fasten off and weave in the end.
