Determining the Cost of a Gas Hot Water System

As with everything else, the cost is the primary concern when shopping for a gas hot water system. Some heaters are more expensive than others depending on the type, model, brand, etc. However, there is more that goes into the final price of the gas heater system.

Here are the major determinants that go into calculating the cost of the gas water heater system.

Capacity

Most gas water heaters are available in the storage variant. The tank comes in different capacities starting from 50 litres and ranging up to 250 litres depending on the need and usage.

For example, if you have a big family of more than four people and require hot water for bathing, washing dishes, doing laundry, cooking etc., you would need a bigger capacity heater. The larger its capacity, the higher the price will be.

Type of Gas Water Heater

Gas water heaters are of different types, models, and sizes. They may run on LPG or natural gas. Fuel charges are also different for each model and type. Learn more here on the various gas water heating systems.

Delivery

Of course, depending on where you purchase the gas water heating system and the vendor, there may be a delivery fee associated with where you have to pay to have the heater delivered. Some vendors cover the cost, but some may ask you to pay for it. A few provide free delivery within a set radius and charge a nominal fee beyond it.

If purchasing the heater from a location far away from your place, be prepared to pay extra transportation. Check before buying. The final charge is based on the system's size and weight and the total distance to be travelled.

Installation Costs

Once the heater arrives at your property, you will have it installed properly. This requires labour. The charges, of course, will depend on the complexity of the job. If you are getting a brand new system installed, pipes, fittings, gas line connections, and other plumbing jobs will incur additional costs.

On the other hand, if replacing your old system with a new one in the same place, the charges will be minimal. Therefore installation charges will need to be factored in to arrive at the final price of the heater.

Operating Costs and Maintenance

Like any other modern appliance, heating systems also need regular service and maintenance. Some models need more care than others. Be sure to check with the manufacturer or read the service manual. These will have charges as well. Repair and maintenance costs will add up over time, proving more expensive in the long run.

Service Accessibility

This depends on where the heating system is installed and how easily accessible it is. If the place is easily accessible, say in the patio or basement or the balcony, you need not pay anything extra. On the other hand, when the unit is installed at a considerable height where it is difficult to access, the servicemen might charge extra as it will take time.

Once you have selected the right heating system as per your needs, it is best to check with the supplier or manufacturer about other costs involved to evaluate the total cost of the same.
