If you love cute, furry desk buddies, you will adore this amigurumi pattern! Here's my newest design, the Flying Squirrel Mug Rug.

The Flying Squirrel Mug Rug is a cute amigurumi cup coaster that I designed after creating Flynn the Flying Squirrel! This pint-sized cutie is essentially a little sibling to Flynn. If you're a coffee lover or tea lover, or have a friend who is, the Flying Squirrel Mug Rug is the perfect crochet project! Can you imagine how much joy it'll bring to you when you see it perched on your desk each morning?

It is nearly no-sew, only requiring sewing for the head and tail to the body. Its floppy and unstuffed body makes it suitable to use as a coaster or decor for your office desk.

You can also let this little creature perch on your shoulder as a portable pet! This versatile pattern can work as a sugar glider by using different yarn colors.

It makes a great emotional support stuffie, birthday gift, baby shower gift, Christmas holiday gift or market/craft fair product.

Of course, it also serves as a great mug rug or cup coaster (hence the name), so it's perfect as a stocking stuffer for those who love coffee and tea. If you want to make it a combo gift, you can include a cute and hilarious sloth mug or this squirrel tail mug

About the Pattern

  • Low-sew project (sewing only needed for attaching the head and tail to the body)
  • Fast to work up
  • Size: Body is a 4” x 4” square to serve as a standard cup coaster

Recommended Yarn

This pattern was designed using faux fur yarn for a soft and furry stuffed animal! I used Lion Brand Yarn's Feels like Bliss Yarn, and really enjoy how silky it feels when crocheting. Other yarn options like blanket yarn or chenille velvet yarn can also be used with this pattern to create a plush look.

Uses

  • Plush toy for children to play with
  • Security stuffy or emotional support stuffy to comfort little ones
  • Selling at craft fairs, markets, or boutiques
  • Birthday gift, baby shower gift, or Christmas holiday gift
  • Christmas stocking stuffer
