Washington DC - The Perfect Family Trip

Many people think that a trip to Washington DC is only for grown-ups. However, it's also a great place to visit as a family. Find out more about kid-friendly Washington DC below.

How to get there

When taking a family trip, to Washington DC going by car is a good idea, because it cuts the stress of having to deal with the kids on a plane or a train. Of course, if your little ones adore trains you might want to allow them to take a ride to the state capital.

If you do decide to travel to Washington DC by plane, just be sure to take plenty of games, and entertainment to keep the kids busy during the flight. You may even want to take earplugs and treat bags for other passengers if you have a little one who is likely to cry.

When to go

The best time to visit Washington DC with the family has to be the Fall season. This is because during the summer it can be incredibly hot and humid, and this can make it too much when you have kids with you that can overheat quickly.

What to see

There are so many great things to do as a family in Washington DC. Of course, the first of these is touring the city to take in all those amazing and historic monuments like the Lincoln Memorial, the National Mall, the White House and the Washington Monument. A great way to do this with the kids in tow is to take an open-topped bus tour ride where you’ll get to see everything and get info from a knowledgeable tour guide.

Once you have done there you’ll want to head to the Lego Discovery Center, Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, and the National Zoo, which currently holds over 2000 animals of 400 different species.

Where to stay

When visiting Washington DC as a family, finding suitable accommodation is crucial to the enjoyment of your stay. For short-term stays places like the YOTEL Washington DC is a good choice as it's kid-friendly and has a rooftop pool that the kids will love. For longer-term stays, where you’re combining your visit with spending time with family or working then furnished apartments Washington DC can be a great choice. This is because they are centrally located, and packed with amenities from a gym, peloton bikes, and a rooftop pool, while also coming with a fully equipped kitchen, and being beautifully decorated which means you can just move in and your whole family will feel right at home.

Places to eat

There is no shortage of great kid-friendly places to grab a snack or a meal in Washington DC. We the Pizza has to be one of your first stops where they sell some killer wings, salads and of course Pizzas. Be sure to try the Cajun Chicken & Andouille which is perfect for the adults of your party.

Then there is baked and wired where you can get a vast selection of sweet treats for the kids and some great coffees for the grown-ups. For the kids their light and fluffy cupcakes are a must and for the adults The Jolt, a combo of coffee and chocolate fudge brownie topped with pecan brown butter frosting and espresso cream cheese swirl.
