Why You Should Give ‘Just Because’ + Random Act of Kindness Card

You know that warm fuzzy feeling you get around when you watch someone open a gift you gave them? Seeing the pure joy and excitement on their face is priceless. So why do we wait until special occasions like holidays or birthdays to give someone a gift?

There are so many reasons why we should give just because, including building stronger relationships and improving your overall happiness. Check out these reasons to give so you can take advantage of all the amazing benefits of giving no matter what time of year it is.

Creates Stronger Connections With Others

When you give someone a gift, you tend to feel closer to them while they feel more linked to you in return. Connecting with people through gift-giving boosts your relationship and builds trust between one another, so when you want to enjoy the emotional benefits of a strong friendship, give them a thoughtful gift.

Makes You Happier

The happiness you feel when you watch someone receive a gift is due to your brain releasing ‘feel good’ chemicals such as endorphins, serotonin and dopamine. Not only do you feel this when giving a physical gift, but when you give your time and efforts as well. This is known as the “helpers high” which is common in those who volunteer often.

Spreads the Cheer

When one person gives, it inspires another to do the same. Even though giving to your best friend or family member is kind, try giving to a stranger, a neighbor, or someone you haven’t talked to in a long time. These random acts of kindness can spark inspiration that may cause them to want to do the same for others. Some great ideas include:
  • Buying coffee for the person behind you in line
  • Surprising a neighbor with freshly baked goods
  • Leaving unused coupons next to matching products in the store
  • Donating clothes to a local shelter
  • Paying a toll for the person behind you
  • Bringing in a tray of goodies for your coworkers to enjoy
  • Sending flowers or treats to healthcare workers
  • Doing the ‘tip the bill’ challenge next time you eat out

When you do an act of kindness, leave one of these printable random acts of kindness cards to help spread the love and encourage others to give down the line — just because.
