Woodland Leaf Fairy (Free Crochet Pattern)


Dear fellow crocheters,

I'm excited to share with you my sweet, little fairy doll design!  Meet the Woodland Leaf Fairy, an adorable fae that is quick and easy to crochet.

    This shy faerie lives deep in the woods. She has long, red hair, a forest green dress, a pair of magical butterfly wings, and two headpiece accessories to choose from – a leaf crown and a flower crown.  Doesn't she look adorable in both the leaf and flower crowns?

    This fairy makes a lovely gift for young girls and children who adore mythical, fantasy, and fairytale creatures. Adults with a penchant for folklore will also love this cute and whimsical design.  She's such a dainty, little thing!

    Introduction:
    The Woodland Leaf Fairy is an adorable, little fae that is quick and easy to crochet. This shy faerie lives deep in the woods. She has long, red hair, a forest green dress, a pair of magical butterfly wings, and two headpiece accessories to choose from – a leaf crown and a flower crown. This fairy makes a lovely gift for little girls and children who adore mythical, fantasy, and fairytale creatures. Adults with a penchant for folklore will also love this cute and whimsical design. The Woodland Leaf Fairy is part of Sweet Softies’ Pocket Pixie Series, which features a collection of mini amigurumi dolls that you’ll surely fall in love with.

    Materials:





    Crochet Instructions

    Important Notes (Read before beginning!)
    • Use your preferred yarn colors for each part. (My selection is written in parenthesis.)

    Head
    Use skin-colored yarn (peach).
    R1: In MR, sc 6. (6 sts)
    R2: Inc around. (12 sts)
    R3: (Sc, inc) x 6. (18 sts)
    R4: (Sc 2, inc) x 6. (24 sts)
    R5: (Sc 3, inc) x 6. (30 sts)
    R6-R12: Sc around. (30 sts)
    R13: (Sc 3, dec) x 6. (24 sts)
    Insert 7mm plastic safety eyes between R10-R11, 6 sts apart.
    R14: (Sc 2, dec) x 6. (18 sts)
    R15: (Sc, dec) x 6. (12 sts)
    FO and weave in the ends.

    Hair Cap
    Use hair-colored yarn (reddish orange).
    Repeat R1-R10 instructions from the ‘Head’ section.
    FO with a long tail for sewing later.

    Body
    Start with underwear-colored yarn (white).
    R1: In MR, sc 6. (6 sts)
    R2: Inc around. (12 sts)
    R3: (Sc, inc) x 6. (18 sts)
    R4-R8: Sc around. (18 sts)
    R9: (Sc 4, dec) x 3. (15 sts)
    Switch to dress-colored yarn (green).
    R10: Sc around. (15 sts)
    R11: In BLO, (sc 3, dec) x 3. (12 sts)
    R12: Sc around. (12 sts)
    FO with a long tail for sewing later.


    Dress Skirt
    Start with dress-colored yarn (green). Attach yarn to the back loops created in R11 of the body.
    R1: Ch 2, hdc around. *Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (15 sts)
    R2: Ch 2, (hdc 2, inc) x 5. *Join. (20 sts)
    R3: Ch 2, (hdc 3, inc) x 5. *Join. (25 sts)
    R4: Ch 2, (hdc 4, inc) x 5. *Join. (30 sts)
    R5: Ch 2, (hdc 5, inc) x 5. *Join. (35 sts)
    FO and weave in the ends.

    Wings
    Follow the instructions for the Butterfly Fairy Wings for your fairy.

    Butterfly Fairy Wings (Written Pattern + Video Tutorial)


    Legs (x2)
    Start with skin-colored yarn (peach).
    Ch 15. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook. Sl st across.
    FO with a long tail for sewing later.

    Arms (x2)
    Start with skin-colored yarn (peach).
    Ch 11. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook. Sl st across.
    FO with a long tail for sewing later. 

    Hair Accessory Option 1: LEAF CROWN
    Use leaf-colored yarn (green). 
    Start with a long yarn tail. (Ch 6, sl st in 3rd ch from hook) x 6.
    FO with a long tail.

    Hair Accessory Option 2: FLOWER CROWN
    Part A: HEADBAND RIBBON
    Use leaf-colored yarn (green).
    With a long tail to start, ch 30.
    FO with a long tail.
    Part B: FLOWERS (x5)
    Use flower-colored yarn (red).
    In MR: (ch 5, sl st in ring) x 5.
    FO with a tail for tying to the headband.


    Finishing Instructions

    1. Sew the arms and legs to the body using a yarn needle and the long yarn tails. 
    2. To add hair, you can follow my Hair Tutorial video, or scroll down to see the embedded video on this page.  A photo and written tutorial is available in the PDF pattern file.
    3. Stuff the head and body firmly, but be careful not to stretch the stitches.  
    4. Make sure the hair cap is sewn onto the head, and then sew the head and body together.
    5. Sew the wings to the doll’s back.
    6. Add blush to cheeks using blush powder & q-tip.  Click here for a blush tutorial, or scroll down to watch the video tutorial on this page.
    7. Lastly, tie the hair accessory of choice (leaf crown or flower crown) around your doll's head.
