Anne of Green Gables Doll (Free Amigurumi Crochet Pattern)


Hello my fellow crocheters,

I'm excited to share with you my newest amigurumi doll design!  Does she look familiar?  If you're thinking Anne of Green Gables, you are correct!  This vivacious girlie is a variation of my Baby Bean (free amigurumi pattern):


The instructions for Anne include:

Anne is the third member of the Baby Bean Doll Base family.  You can view all the Baby Beans here!


This Anne of Green Gables design features the famous and charming orphan wearing her hat, green dress, white apron, and recognizable red hair in braids.  This doll makes the perfect gift for anyone who is a fan of the classic book or TV series (Anne with an E).

Introduction:
This Anne of Green Gables design features the famous and charming orphan wearing her hat, green dress, white apron, and recognizable red hair in braids.  This doll makes the perfect gift for anyone who is a fan of the classic book or TV series (Anne with an E).
This doll pattern is a variation of Sweet Softies’ Baby Bean Doll.  To make Anne, you will also need pattern instructions for the Baby Bean doll base, available as a free pattern.  Anne’s PDF pattern file includes written crochet instructions for adapting the Baby Bean doll base to create this design.  It includes step-by-step photo references and a detailed hair tutorial.

Level: 
  • ★★☆☆☆ Easy / Familiar Beginner 
  • Requires familiarity with stitches used (below), attaching plastic safety eyes, changing yarn colors, attaching yarn, and sewing parts together.

Size: 
  • Height without hat: 4 ½ in (11.5 cm) 

Stitches/Terms Used (US Terminology):
  • FO: fasten off
  • MR: magic ring 
  • Ch: chain 
  • Sl st: slip stitch 
  • Sc: single crochet 
  • Dc: double crochet 
  • Inc: increase (2 sc in same st) 
  • Dec: decrease 
  • BLO: back loops only
  • FLO: front loops only

DOLL BASE COLOR CHANGING GUIDE

Make the following color changes while using pattern instructions for the Baby Bean doll base.





DRESS SKIRT

Note: “dc-inc” means to do a double crochet increase (two dc in same st).
Use green yarn. 
Place the doll face-down, feet turned away from you.  Insert hook in a stitch in the center of the doll’s back, right under R22 of the body.  Attach yarn and begin R1.
R1: Ch 1, sc around. *Join with a sl to the first st. (21 sts)
R2: Ch 3. In BLO: dc-inc around. *Join. (42 sts)
R3: Ch 3. (Dc 6, dc-inc) around. *Join. (48 sts)
R4: Ch 3, dc around. *Join. (48 sts)
FO and weave in the ends.

APRON

BOTTOM PORTION (OF APRON):

Use white yarn.
The apron will be crocheted to the front 8 sts of the dress.  Count where you’d like it to start.  Holding doll face-up and feet pointing away from you, attach white yarn to the first st (an unworked back loop) on the right.
R1: Ch 1, sc 8 across the back loops created in R2 of the dress skirt. (8 sts)
R2: Ch 3, turn. In FLO: dc-inc across. (16 sts)
R3: Ch 3, turn. (Ch 3, dc-inc) x 4. (20 sts)
FO and weave in the ends.

TOP PORTION (OF APRON):
Note: “dc-dec” means to do a double crochet decrease (one dc in two sts).

Use white yarn.
Holding the doll face-up and feet pointed towards you, attach yarn back to the unworked back loops of the 8 sc made in R1 of the Apron Bottom.
R1: Ch 3, dc-dec, dc 4, dc-dec. (6 sts)
R2: Ch 1, turn. Dec, sc 2, dec. (4 sts)
Without FO yet, ch 10 to create the apron straps. Pull the chain around the doll’s neck, then join to the other side of the apron with a sl st. FO and weave in the ends.

HAIR CAP

Use orange yarn.
R1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6 sts)
R2: Inc around. (12 sts)
R3: (Sc, inc) x 6. (18 sts)
R4: (Sc 2, inc) x 6. (24 sts)
R5: (Sc 3, inc) x 6. (30 sts)
R6-R11: Sc around. (30 sts)
FO with a long tail for sewing later.

HAT

Start with light brown yarn.
R1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6 sts)
R2: Inc around. (12 sts)
R3: (Sc, inc) x 6. (18 sts)
R4: (Sc 2, inc) x 6. (24 sts)
R5: (Sc 3, inc) x 6. (30 sts)
R6: Sc around in BLO. (30 sts)
R7: Sc around. (30 sts)
Switch to dark brown yarn.
R8: Sc around. (30 sts)
Switch to light brown yarn.
R9: Ch 3, dc-inc around in FLO. (60 sts)
FO and weave in the ends.



~ FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS ~

  1. Follow my Hair Tutorial to add hair strands and bangs to your doll’s hair cap.  You will also be sewing the cap to your doll’s head.  After you attach the hair strands, braid them into two pigtails.
  2. If desired, add blush to cheeks using my tips and video tutorial.
  3. Lastly, place your doll’s hat on her head, and you are done!
