I'm thrilled to share with you my newest design, Baby's Buttoned Turban Hat!

Baby’s Buttoned Turban is an adorable beanie that will make your little girl look absolutely precious!  It’s a true fashion statement that is totally trending right now, yet practical, comfortable, and keeps your baby’s head warm!  It’s easy to put on and wear, and the perfect accessory for the stylish little diva in your life.  You can easily customize it with appliques, buttons, and different yarn colors.  It comes in the newborn 0-3 month size, and makes a perfect gift for baby showers, craft fairs, and the like!

It's also soooo simple and quick to crochet, and you can easily finish this project in one sitting!  With a 5.00mm crochet hook and medium weight yarn, you'll whip it up in no time.  It comes in the newborn 0-3 month size and makes a perfect handmade gift for baby showers, craft fairs, and the like.

Finished Measurement:
  • Newborn 0-3 months. Hat circumference without being stretched: 12”

Level:
  • ★★☆☆☆  Easy / Beginner
  • Requires familiarity with stitches used (below) and sewing pieces together.

Stitches/Terms Used (US Terminology):
  • MR: magic ring
  • Ch: chain
  • Sl st: slip stitch
  • Sc: single crochet
  • Hdc: half dc
  • Hdc-inc: hdc increase (2 hdc in same stitch)

Materials:

Important Notes (Read before beginning!)

Let's begin!

R1: In MR: ch 2, hdc 10. *Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (10 hdc)
R2: Ch 2, (hdc-inc) around. *Join. (20 hdc)
R3: Ch 2, (hdc, hdc-inc) around. *Join. (30 hdc)
R4: Ch 2, (hdc 2, hdc-inc) around. *Join. (40 hdc)
R5: Ch 2, (hdc 3, hdc-inc) around. *Join. (50 hdc)
R6-R9: Ch 2, hdc around. *Join. (50 hdc)
R10-R13: Ch 2, hdc 15, ch 19, skip next 19 sts, hdc 16. *Join. (31 hdc, 19 ch)
R14: Ch 2, hdc 15, ch 9, skip next 9 sts, insert a sc around all previous ch rows and into corresponding st in R9.  Ch 9, skip next 9 sts, hdc 16.  (31 hdc, 18 ch, 1 sc)
Note: Visual references for this row are available in the PDF pattern.

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

  1. All you need to do at this point is to find a lovely button or applique to attach to the hat.  It will go where you have made a “crease” using the sc in R14.
  2. Sew the button onto the hat.
Note: I like to fold the hat back a bit so that the magic ring in R1 doesn’t sit at the top of the head, but rather, towards the back of the head.
