Yarn Review: Chiffon Ribbon Ombre Pack from DGY

Hi my fellow yarn enthusiasts,

I'm so excited to share with you my very first yarn order from Darn Good Yarn!  I got the Chiffon Ribbon Ombre Pack in the colors, "Neutral".

If you'd like to make an order as well, be sure to use this link for 15% off your entire order on the Darn Good Yarn website!

Read on for my thoughts and opinions of this product, a link to a FREE pattern that I designed using it, and my video review!

Colors
Firstly, I'm going to talk a bit about the "Neutral" color pack that I got and then go into the other color selections.  The Neutral comes with four skeins, all different colors: an off-white sort of linen, a dusty ochre, a reddish taupe, and a chocolatey brown.  They are truly beautiful, earthy tones that just look so lovely and natural with no abrupt starts or ends to the shading.  Rather, they're very well-blended, which would create a gentle and subtle gradient when crocheting or knitting.

The ombre packs also come with a lot of other color combinations.  I had gotten the neutrals, but there are shades of blue, pink, red, orange and yellow, green, purple and violet, and even rainbow to pick from!  All packs include four skeins that are nicely matched, except the rainbow pack which comes in a pack of seven skeins.  The colors are bright, fun, and artsy!

Yarn Details
The fiber of this chiffon ribbon yarn is sturdy and strong, making it suitable for projects that need some rigidity and can hold up well!  Each skein is 80 yards, and the yarn weight is considered bulky (weight 5) with 1/4" to 1/2" strips.  It's very similar to t-shirt yarn as it's flat in shape.  Since it's quite bulky as well, it works up rapidly in projects, especially if you're using a large hook to go with it! The recommended hook size is K, L, M, which is equivalent to 6.5mm, 8mm, and 9mm crochet hooks.

Perfect For Projects Like...?
This yarn is perfect for a variety of crochet, knitting, jewelry-making, and mixed media arts projects!  If you're looking to use it for crocheting, I have a few opinions and ideas on what it'd be nicely suitable for.  Since the shades are chosen so well together, it can be four small separate (individual) projects that complement one another, such as small containers or potholders, or a large project with all four of the colors incorporated with one another, like a large basket or bag.

Below are projects that I think it'd be perfect for crocheting into!
  • Baskets
  • Containers
  • Coasters
  • Potholders
  • Placemats
  • Clutches
  • Purses
  • Bags
  • And other sturdy accessories or home dec projects!
