Fluffy Hooded Bear Cowl (Free Crochet Pattern)

by - August 26, 2019

Dear fellow crocheters,

I'm so excited to share with you my newest design: the Fluffy Hooded Bear Cowl!  You might be wondering, what's a hooded cowl?  It's basically a hoodie and scarf hybrid.  Some call it a "snoodie"!  For someone who loves keeping her head and neck warm, I find this to be kind of the perfect accessory for cold, winter seasons!

Plus, bear ears?  How much cuter can it get?

It's a Mommy-and-me pattern, which has a one-size-fits-all adult size, as well as a child's size.  This was actually designed and crocheted as a gift for a sweet friend of mine and her baby girl.  I just love how it turned out, both the look AND the feel!

To see it in action, check out my super quick (32-second!) product preview video below...

This snoodie is quick to work up with simple stitches, a large hook, and super bulky textured yarn! There is minimal sewing involved as the hood and cowl sections are crocheted all as one piece, with the teddy ears separately attached at the end.

It's so fun to wear and will certainly keep you warm outdoors in the frigid cold.  Once you're indoor where the room is heated (hopefully), you can easily slide the hood down so you don't overheat.

The beautiful yarn that I chose to use for this project is Lion Brand Go For Faux™ Yarn, in the color 'Pink Poodle'.  The furry quality of it is so heavenly soft and super cozy.  The yarn also provides wonderful drape for this hoodie!  What's fantastic is that despite this fur yarn looking so luxurious and feeling like real animal fur, no animals were harmed in the spinning of it!  It is 100% polyester and surprisingly affordable for its quality.  Being a cheap vegan, I totally dig this!
I used about 3.5 skeins for the adult-sized hoodie, and 2.5 skeins for the child-sized hoodie.  With 6 skeins of yarn, you can crochet a Mommy-and-me set!  How wonderful is that?

I personally think this hooded cowl is perfect as a whimsical winter accessory.  It can also be a Halloween or cosplay costume, a birthday or Christmas holiday gift, or just for anyone who loves staying cozy (and CUTE) during the cold!

Update: Guys!! Can you believe?! Lion Brand Yarn tweeted about my cowl! Im in shock over here!!

Introduction:
The Fluffy Hooded Bear Cowl is a fun and whimsical winter accessory that is sure to keep heads and necks warm! This snoodie is quick to work up with simple stitches, a large hook, and super bulky textured yarn! There is minimal sewing involved as the hood and cowl sections are crocheted all as one piece, with the teddy ears separately attached at the end. The two sizes for this pattern (adult and child) make this a perfect Mommy and Me gift! It is also great for Halloween or cosplay costumes, as a birthday or Christmas holiday gift, or just for anyone who loves staying cozy and cute during the cold!
This pattern features Lion Brand Yarn’s Go for Faux yarn, which creates the softest hooded scarf you’ll ever crochet. It has a lovely and relaxed drape as well, without feeling heavy on the head. You can opt for similar furry or fluffy yarns for this project as well!
