Granny Square Day

Guess what? Today, August 15th, is...

National Granny Square Day!! 🎉

If you're new to what Granny Square Day is, you can check out this post by Simply Crochet to read up on the history of it.

In a nutshell, it began back in 2014 by Susan Regalia.  The US-based crocheter realized that Instagram’s iconic grid format could be used to replicate the patchwork arrangement of the classic granny square blanket online. Others soon caught on to the concept and so Granny Square Day was born – bringing the worldwide crochet community together in a celebration of design and color.  “A blanket is a gift of comfort and love,” says Susan. “When any of us view or contribute some of these granny squares, it’s as though we join in to a giant world hug with each other!”

Isn't that just absolutely wonderful?  What a beautiful way to celebrate not only the joy of crocheting and fiber arts crafting, but the yarn community as well!

In honor of National Granny Square Day, I'm bringing up my FREE crochet patterns, the bunny lovey and puppy lovey, which are adorable security blankets made using the granny square technique!

It's super easy, and you'll be able to make it even if you're a beginner to amigurumi!  Click on the links below to navigate to the pattern!

It's super easy to join in!  All you need to do is to take a photo of a granny square or a granny square project, and post it to your Instagram with the hashtag #grannysquareday2019 today, August 15th.  Including the hashtag will allow others to see your lovely granny square!

The classic way to do it is to crop the photo so that the single square fills the entire screen of your post, but of course you can be creative with it as well! 

Oh, and get this... when you search by the hashtag, those single, cropped squares will come together like a virtual granny square blanket. How cool is that?!
