Creative Hobbies for Unartistic People

Dear my lovely readers,

I've recently been hearing from some of my followers that they like to check out my crafting ventures, but at the same time, they'd never try it out for themselves because they are "not talented at art" or can't create anything with their hands to save their lives.

Well, I'm here to share with you that YES, YOU can CREATE!! We have it in each of us!

I'll be sharing a few tidbits about how creativity can bring joy to your life, as well as a few creative hobby ideas that you can try out.

Firstly, being creative is a wonderful thing! Having creative hobbies can help you to unwind and relax at the end of a long day. Your hobby can give you a great way to express yourself, and it can even help you to save money on gifts, or give you a chance to start a business. Even if it’s something that you only ever do for yourself, having creative hobbies can allow you to use a different part of your brain, boosting your mental health, reducing stress levels, and helping to find off early signs of ageing and mental fatigue. Being creative at home can also help you in other areas of life, improving your ability to think creatively, to think outside the box and to come up with creative solutions to everyday problems.

However, I habitually hear the notion that we’re not all creative. Some of us can quickly knock up a fantastically impressive painting, whereas some of us would struggle to draw a stickman. If you can’t draw, have never been great at art and always made a massive mess when you tried to craft, you might feel as though you are missing out. You might worry that you aren’t getting the benefits of having creative hobbies because you’ve never been a creative person. But, that doesn’t mean that you can’t be, nor that you can’t reap the rewards. There are plenty of creative hobbies, even for those of us that struggle to draw a straight line.

Creative Hobbies to Try Out

Adult Coloring
Adulting coloring saw a massive surge in popularity a few years ago. Claiming to help reduce stress, coloring books suddenly popped up everywhere in different styles and themes. Many people find that sitting with a coloring book and some pens or pencils, focusing only on the colors and the pictures or patterns that they are creating can be exceptionally restful, and the best thing is, you don’t need any artistic skills whatsoever.

Painting by Numbers
Painting by numbers is an excellent way into art. Practicing paint by number for adults can improve your confidence and skill with a paintbrush, it can help you to see what beautiful pictures you could create and it can give you a chance to explore your creativity. It’s also a hobby that can help you to relax, and improve your ability to concentrate and focus.

Photography
Photography is a hobby that is for everyone. You might not be good enough to sell your photos or create a best selling book, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t take pictures that you are happy with and can enjoy. You don’t even need a camera to get started. Practice taking different shots with your smartphone to see if it’s something that you want to take forward.

Decoupage
Decoupage comes from the French French verb découper, ‘to cut out’. Put simply, it’s the practice of cutting out pictures and patterns and sticking them onto paper, books, and other objects, before covering them with varnish to create beautiful items. Decoupage is something that anyone can have a go at, and you don’t have to be particularly neat to create something truly beautiful.

And, of course... CROCHET!
As you all know, crochet is a main focus of my blog, and I continue to share beginner-friendly patterns, tips, and tutorials on this site. Whether you're a veteran crocheter, or completely new to this yarn craft, I want to let you know that there are so many wonderful health benefits to crocheting aside from creating adorable and amazing projects out of yarn!  I encourage you to take the chance to fill yourself with a positive and encouraging thought, that you CAN do it, you CAN learn it, and you CAN rock it!!

Remember, as with all skills that you learn, it takes grit and perseverance. Don't be too hard on yourself; give yourself grace! The learning process is all about trial and error, but if you keep at it, you'll be sure to surprise yourself with how much you are capable of!

I'd love if you could share with me below your experience with trying out new hobbies, which hobby you'd love to pick up, or anything related to this topic!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Warmly,
