The most popular candy in the world

Whether it’s during a traveling escapade abroad or following a heavy, savory lunch, many people indulge in a sweet snack throughout an average day. In fact, candy is adored around the world, although it comes in a variety of shapes and sizes in various countries. Overall, though, there are some undisputed favorites, given planet Earth’s love of the sweeter things in life.

While it does vary from country to country, one thing is for sure: humans can’t seem to get enough of the sweet stuff. People regularly try and nail delicious cakes in their kitchens; drivers are always dipping into a sugar-filled favorite during a long journey; people watch candy-themed shows on Netflix, while games with candies like Sweet Bonanza and its candy theme are thriving right now. Put simply, humans love various candy brands, although it does vary from country to country in terms of the undisputed favorites.

In order to gain more of an insight into planet Earth’s candy habits, let’s take a look at some of the most popular candies around by country.

M&Ms and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are leading the way in America

Given that most of the world’s top brands in this area come from the country, it’s hardly surprising that Americans love candy. The clear favorites are obvious, with Americans indulging in Snickers but also other much-loved brands like M&Ms and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. According to a survey in 2020, both M&Ms and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups recorded the most sales in that particular year, with a similar picture occurring ever since.

Canada’s favorite is Kit Kat and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups aren’t just topping the rankings in America but also in Canada. Canadians adore the peanut butter-filled delight, although there is another contender in Kit Kat’s, the chocolate-covered wafer bar confection that was created in the United Kingdom and has since gone on to become one of the world’s favorite candy bars.

Cadbury Dairy Milk is the go-to bar in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and India

While Americans adore Hershey’s, Europeans and other nations adore Cadbury due to its richer and creamier taste compared to the iconic American brand. The British milk chocolate favorite is devoured almost everywhere, although it is particularly popular and tops the rankings in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and India. If you’re able to get your hands on one of Cadbury’s delicious bars, you definitely won’t be disappointed.

Japan adores Meiji

Also home to some truly surprising Kit Kat flavors, Japan adores Meiji as it continues to sell more than the British classic. An iconic brand in the country since 1926 that is now a favorite with chocolate lovers everywhere, Meiji’s milk chocolate is delightful and is well worth sampling if you ever get the chance, although Japan’s impressive array of Kit Kat flavors is another area of deliciousness that is also worth exploring in more detail.

Milka is the most popular brand in Germany

Continuing our European-made brands in this area, Milka is Germany’s offering in the candy category. Alongside other notable brands from the country, such as Ritter Sport, Milka is the number one candy in the country. Coming in a variety of flavors, it’s almost Germany’s version of Cadbury’s, although the debate will rumble on as to which is best. Overall, though, Milka bars boast strong doses of deliciousness and are also consumed in a variety of other nations outside of Germany.

Other popular candy in the world includes Galaxy (Saudi Arabia), Alpen Gold (Russia), Milk Candy (China), Ghana (South Korea), Cadbury Lunch Bar (South Africa), and Candy Bars (France).
