One of my readers requested a dumpling bag after I released my free dumpling and steamer basket crochet pattern. I thought it was a cute idea, so here's my take on her request!
I have this pattern available as a free written pattern, free video tutorial, and also a paid PDF pattern (with photo references) for those who'd like a printable and ad-free copy.
The Dumpling Leggy Bag pattern is a Jellycat-inspired amigurumi drawstring pouch. It features a white dumpling or Chinese steamed bun (bao) with two little legs and feet. It works up quickly with bulky weight 5 chenille velvet yarn and results in a soft, plush finish. It makes a fun gift for any foodie or Asian food enthusiast, and can be made for birthdays, Christmas, holidays, and other occasions. The PDF pattern includes progress photos to help guide you through the crochet process.
It's a generously-sized pouch, sitting at 8 inches in height!
Are you a dumpling fanatic?
If you love dumplings, you might also be interested in my dumpling and steamer basket pattern that I mentioned earlier! This viral and trendy crochet set is a very quick and easy project, and perfect as a gift for any foodies or Asian culture enthusiasts. They make great craft fair stock and market prep items too!
Both patterns are also available as video tutorials on the Sweet Softies YouTube channel!
Recommended Yarn
This whimsical drawstring bag is designed with Posh Twist yarn, which is a super plush and soft bulky weight 5 yarn. This is the most durable and non-shedding chenille velvet yarn I've used, so I highly recommend it for projects that might get a lot of use!
You are also welcome to try this pattern with other types of yarns, such as a sturdy or 100% cotton yarn. Cotton is preferable for bags because it won't stretch like acrylic or wool would. If you really do want to use a yarn that stretches, I highly recommend you sew a fabric or cloth lining inside the bag so that it'll maintain its shape.
PDF Pattern
The PDF pattern is printable, ad-free, easy to read, contains helpful photo references, and helps support Sweet Softies! (If you enjoy my free patterns, you can consider it as a donation to me when you buy one of my pattern PDFs! It allows me to maintain my blog and continue sharing more free patterns.)
You can get the PDF pattern from my store, Ravelry, or Etsy. It contains BOTH the dumpling and basket pattern!
