That's what makes evidence so important when determining fault in a car accident. Instead of relying on one person's memory, investigators can compare different clues and work backward to figure out how the collision most likely unfolded.

Bent Metal Can Say a Lot

The damage to a vehicle isn't random. Where a car was struck, how deeply an area was crushed, and the direction certain parts were pushed can provide clues about how two vehicles came together. Front-end damage tells a different story from an impact concentrated along a rear quarter panel.

Debris can add another piece. Broken lights, pieces of bumpers, glass, and other vehicle parts may help identify where an impact occurred. Investigators can compare those locations with the damage on each vehicle and where the cars eventually came to rest after the collision.
