It's so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life. You work Monday through Friday and by the weekend you're exhausted, but you have a bunch of errands to do that you couldn't get through during the week. You have family commitments to maintain. You have a social life to worry about. And now we're going to talk about why you should have a hobby, too!
Sometimes, it feels like there's barely enough time to breathe, never mind having a hobby on top of everything else. You need downtime, though. You need a way to be able to pass the time that doesn't involve anybody else except you and what you want to do with it. Whether it's creating beautiful foiled up prints, gardening, or having fun with knitting, hobbies are a great way to spend your free time. Let's take a look at why you should make time for your favorite activities, no matter how busy life really gets.
- You have a chance to express yourself creatively. When you're stuck at an office during the week, commuting between home and work, and then trying to remember how to make dinner so that you can eat something before you collapse exhausted, you don't get a chance to be creative. If you've ever tried your hand at foiled art prints, you know just how satisfying it is to watch a blank canvas turn into something shiny and unique. Whether you like to draw, you like to paint, or something of a comic book artist, these are creative outlets that allow you to next connect with that inner artist that you buried in favour of the corporate world.
- Hobbies are a chance for you to relax. Life is overwhelming, and you can't really run away from that fact. Engaging in something you love helps you take the mind off the worries that come with that world and gives you a break from that. Being able to knit something into new clothing or paint something for your new house or even just reading a good book can transport you to a peaceful state of mind. You deserve to feel recharged and refreshed but you don't have to spend hours a week on your hobby for it to be effective. Even just a few minutes every day or a couple of hours at the weekend can make all the difference for you to relax.
- Hobbies help you to build new skills. You don't have to be good at something for it to be a hobby. In fact, you could be a terrible singer but love doing it so much that it becomes your hobby. You could be rubbish at art, but turn to YouTube videos to help you learn to draw. Hobbies give you a chance to learn something new and that's the point; Learning something new is how you skill build. You might not know how to play a musical instrument, but you'll certainly learn how after a few lessons. There is a built-in sense of progression with hobbies and while you don't need to monetize it to make it successful, you can still have a lot of fun learning how to get better at something.
- It really becomes something to look forward to. Whether you're carving out time every evening to read the next chapter or two of your book, or you're joining a class at the weekends to go and pump out some frustration at karate, the excitement of diving into a hobby can make your free time feel extra special. You need something to look forward to, and it doesn't matter what the hobby is as long as you're excited about it.
- You expand your social circle. Some hobbies are pretty isolating, but if you join a club or a class to do with your hobby, you'll be able to expand your social circle and get to know people. Social connections are a very important part of life and hobbies can provide you a way to bond with others outside of the workplace. It's always good to have a space that you can share your progress and learn from others, and as you have your hobby in common, there's every chance you have other things in common, too.
- Hobbies help you to become more patient. When you're working on a hobby - whether you're working on something complicated in crafting or you're reading a novel - you need to focus and you need to have patience so that you can get through it. Hobbies teach you to slow down and teach you to really pay attention to what it is that you're doing. You'll be able to sharpen your concentration skills which can be also beneficial in other parts of your life such as work or school.
