Safely Moving while Pregnant: What to Know

Pregnancy is an exciting time as you plan for the bundle of joy. If you live in a space that feels too small for your growing family, you might consider moving before the due date. If that sounds familiar, these tips can make moving while pregnant much easier.

Rent a Self Storage Unit

Take the pressure of moving in one day off your plate by storing items in a secure rental unit at the climate-controlled Cleburne storage facility. That reduces stress because you do not have to handle everything at once; instead, store items in the unit until you need them in the new house.

Focus on your well-being right now, knowing your items are safely in storage. Be sure to ask friends and family to carry items into and out of the storage unit so you avoid straining while pregnant.

Do Not Lift Anything Heavy

Safety first! You must go easy on your body so as not to risk your health or that of your baby. That means not lifting any heavy items as that puts you at risk of an injury, which is the last thing you want.

Ask your partner if you have one, or another loved one, to carry anything big and bulky or significant weight. Your doctor will tell you during a prenatal visit about the risks of carrying anything heavy; follow their advice regarding what to avoid and guidelines.

Plan Far in Advance

Starting to plan the move as far ahead of time as possible is a good idea to minimize anxiety and avoid doing too much. For example, make a list of what to pack and how you want to sort things into boxes.

Also, make a list of where you need to change your postal address so that the mail and packages will go to the new home once you’re living there. Doing these tasks over several days helps you avoid overwhelm.

Pay Attention to Your Body

Are you tired? Sore? Morning sickness? Listen to your body while pregnant as it is telling you to slow down and rest. Take time to sit and relax as often as you need to. Breaks are important, so you do not overdo it.

When you get thirsty, be sure to drink water too. It is a good idea to have a water bottle close by so you can take sips throughout the day. Having a snack in the purse makes sense, too.

Final Tip: Have an Essentials Box on Moving Day

Lastly, put together a box of your pregnancy must-haves for moving day. These are the things you can’t do without and don’t want to get misplaced during this big day. Likely items to include in the box are your prenatal vitamins, water bottle, snacks, and maternity sleepwear. Things get busy, so keep this box in your car with you that day so you have what you need.

Keeping these points in mind can help make your move a safer one while pregnant. Once your baby is born and comes back with you to the new home, you can look forward to telling them all about the move!
