How To Train Your Creative Mind For Career Success

Have you got a creative mind? Maybe you find it easier or more natural to think outside of the box than you do to think mathematically? Having a brain like this can make it feel a lot harder to achieve career success in the long term.

You’re a creative person who has a much stronger interest in artistic pursuits than your STEM counterparts, but will that equip you for the current working world and what it wants from the job pool? It can do! It’s all in the way you structure your learning and enhance the way you can use your creative thinking.

Develop Your Time Management Skills

Time management is something a lot of creative people struggle with! If you’re focused on finishing up a project and putting your heart and soul into it, whether you’re writing a new poem or applying finishing touches to a painting, you’ll want to take your time. You want things to be perfect and to match the vision you’ve got in your head.

This can be a hard thing to find accommodation for at work. Deadlines are common, and hitting them is one of the most important parts of keeping the workplace running.

Learning to work with these deadlines while still being able to put the time in is essential to career success. And it’s something you’re capable of, even if it takes some practice and a few telling-offs along the way!

Pursue an Artistic Degree

There are a lot more artistic degrees available in 2024 than ever before. Institutes like Clive Davis are leading the way here with a new BFA in music, and the Royal College of Arts has brand new courses in research and design. As such, it’s easier than ever to pursue a traditional line of education in order to support your creatively patterned brain.

Why not think about enrolling onto a program like these? Doing a bit of research might be the thing you need right now to set yourself on a path of creative career success. Art is subjective, but if you can get a bona fide qualification in your discipline, it’ll be much easier to secure the position you’ve always dreamt of.

Learn to Accept Criticism

Criticism can be a hard thing to take. When you’ve created something and used every ounce of your artistic talent to do so, if someone comes along and picks it apart, it can feel like a punch in the face.

But accepting criticism not only makes you a better artist in the long run, it also allows you to learn what’s helpful criticism and what isn’t. In learning this skill early you give yourself the chance to get better at any job you do, as well as block out the unhelpful, rude, and irrelevant comments that would otherwise play on your mind. That kind of resilience is invaluable in any workplace.

Got a creative mind? You can go far no matter what you choose to do!
