New Career? Booming Industries to Consider to Help You Find Your Way

Are you thinking of starting a new career? Perhaps you are changing jobs after feeling stuck for so long, or you are just coming out of education and are ready to hit the ground running? Regardless of the reason you are looking for a new career, you must find a good one to get stuck into. If you are not sure where you want to go with your job, then a good place to start is to look at the industries that are booming. There are so many industries you can work in, with all kinds of roles available in each one. A trending and growing industry will mean that there are a lot of jobs available to choose from, as well as many growth opportunities. It will also mean that you have the peace of mind of job security. The last thing you want to do is train for a career in an industry that is declining or will decline shortly. Then you will have to start the process all over again, and it can be very tiresome, frustrating, and even expensive, depending on the skills and qualifications that you need to gain.

There are so many industries that you can get into when you are starting a new career. The great thing is, the world is your oyster. Regardless of what skills and experience you have, you can train to be anything you want. Most job roles will now require some kind of training to be able to fulfill the duties. However, some of this can be done as on-the-job training. Some will require that you go through education or some kind of course before you start. This might be self-funded, or funded by the company you wish to work for. You can also take volunteer opportunities to help you dip your toes into job roles to see how you feel before you commit to training, as well as gain the necessary experience to climb your way up the ladder and build a great career for yourself.

Knowing where to start when building a new career can be stressful and overwhelming, especially if you have no idea what you want to do. To help you on your journey, here are some booming industries you can do some research on, to see if any of them resonate with you.

Healthcare

Healthcare is a growing industry and one that is also struggling with such high demand. There has never been more of a need for staff to work in the healthcare industry. There are so many parts to the healthcare industry that you may consider getting into. You can work in research and development, or you can work directly with patients, helping to diagnose, advise, and treat issues. The kinds of roles you may consider are:
  • Doctor
  • Nurse
  • Midwife
  • Dentist
  • Psychologist/Mental health practitioner
  • Social care
  • Pharmaceuticals
To get into the healthcare industry, you will need to conduct research in the area that you want to dive into. The roles are so diverse, that you will need to obtain the relevant experience and qualifications specific to your area of interest. The skills of a dentist are very different from those of a psychologist. If one of these roles interests you, learn about the responsibilities and duties that are involved. You can then see what you need to do to be able to enter the industry. Gaining entry-level experience can be helpful so you can see what the day-to-day role looks like, as this can often look quite different.

Information Technology (IT)

The world has become so reliant on technology that the IT industry is booming and will not be slowing down any time soon. The IT industry involves a lot of diverse and interesting roles, from internet service providers to hardware and software companies. Companies all over the world rely on IT services to help them equip their businesses with all the technology they need. They can advise on what they need, install the equipment, set up the software, train, and coach teams on the software and hardware, on-call computer support, help with security, and much more. The IT industry also includes engineers, who can work on networks and customer service support specialists. With the technology industry growing, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and app development all become major parts of businesses all around the world, the IT industry is in high demand. It is a great industry to get started in and build a career from the ground up. You can work within a company or start up your own.

To become an IT engineer or specialist, you will first need to be happy with the idea of managing computer hardware and software. Whether it is installing or designing and testing applications, you will be responsible for a variety of projects. You will need to have the skills to collaborate and work with other IT specialists, create new software or hardware equipment, be able to diagnose and test systems, install networks, hardware, and software, speak with staff and customers, and much more. You will need to be a self-starter. This is great because you can learn a lot of skills at home and via courses. You will then need to work hands-on to gain relevant experience. If you want to be an engineer, you may need further qualifications.

Hospitality

Hospitality is a booming industry to start your career in. With the travel industry growing, hospitality is doing very well and will only continue to grow. The great thing about hospitality is the wide variety of roles and areas of the industry that you can get into. Firstly, there is the management and maintenance of hotels. You can work up to a management position where you can run a beautiful space for people from all over the world to come and stay. This requires a lot of patience, attention to detail, and a high standard of management skills. You will be managing the whole hotel, as well as staff and customers.

The hospitality industry is all centered around customer service. Most roles in the hospitality industry will touch on customer service in one way or another. This might be direct if you work as a receptionist, bar staff, or waiter in the hotel, or on backend support via web chat and emails.

Hospitality is not just limited to customer service and booking rooms, there are a lot of back-end activities that are involved. The industry has a variety of very versatile and diverse roles. All hotels have to have a cleaning and washing team, with a whole laundrette area to manage. This means some roles involve cleaning all the laundry and items necessary for a clean and hygienic hotel, which is very important. If you consider a role here, then you will need to be able to keep the hotel up to a very high standard, as this would later lead to customer and lawsuit issues. There is also a need for engineers to be able to work the machines and keep them well-maintained. You will need to know how to run the machines, fix the commercial machines when issues arise, and understand the right parts that are needed for the washers, such as ua230.

Real Estate

The real estate industry has always been growing, until the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Since it took a hit, it has been on the rise again, including some very big growth recently. The real estate industry involves investing in properties, and either building a portfolio of properties that you manage and rent out, or doing them up and selling them off for an increased price. You may choose to invest in residential properties, where you rent them out to individuals and families, or commercial properties, which you would rent or sell to businesses. Both options have a lot of value in them.

This kind of role is high risk but yields a high reward at the same time. You will need to have adequate knowledge of the industry, so you can identify good investment opportunities and understand the volatile housing market. The housing market is constantly changing and will differ depending on the target market, type of property, location, time of year, and more. If you don’t want to jump into something with such high risk at first, then you can always look into roles within a realtor agency. This will help you to expand your knowledge and skills, and you can work your way up there, or move on to other roles within the industry. As a real estate agent, you will be able to value properties, get them show-ready, conduct viewings, negotiate, and more. You can also branch off into planning and land development, or lettings. The industry is very diverse, with lots of opportunities depending on your interests and skills.

If you are looking to start a new career, there are plenty of options to choose from. Consider these booming industries to help you kick off your search.
