Greetings!
We're really gearing up for the winter holiday now! My neighborhood community is bright and bustling in the evenings with colorful lights, Christmas songs are all the rage on the radio, and every store I visit reminds me that I don't have a whole lot of time left to finish getting ready for this gifting season!
Each year, I look forward to creating handmade gifts, because...HANDMADE! It just doesn't get more fun and special than that!
This year, thus far, I've managed to check off ~some~ items on my Christmas crafting to-do list. I've made sets of dress potholders, cup cozies, loveys, beanies, and stuffies! However, I do have quite a bit left to go, and so I decided to create another "tiny baby" design to churn up some extra tiny (albeit, cute) gifts! The star of this post is made for and inspired by this cute little one I work with!
So now, I present to you: the Tiny Baby Snowman!

This pattern is very quick to work up, and great as a Christmas tree ornament, last-minute holiday gift, or décor to show your winter holiday spirit!
Finished Measurements:
- Height with hat (not including pom-pom): approximately 3¾ inches (9 centimeters)
Level:
- Advanced beginner. Requires familiarity with stitches used (below), joining rounds, and basic sewing skills.
Stitches/Terms Used (US Terminology):
- MR: magic ring (a.k.a. magic circle, magic loop)
- Ch: chain
- Sc: single crochet
- Dc: double crochet
- Sl st: slip stitch
- Inc: increase (two sc in same stitch)
- Dec: decrease (sc two stitches together)
- BLO: back loops only
Materials:
- Worsted medium weight [4] yarn (I used: white, green, and red. I also used scraps of orange and brown for sewing details on the snowman.)
My favorite medium weight yarns to use are: Caron Simply Soft, Red Heart Soft, Vanna's Choice (Lion Brand), or Lion Brand Heartland) - 2.75 mm hook (I love Clover Amour hooks!)
- Fiberfill stuffing
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- 6mm plastic safety eyes
- Optional: small buttons or appliques for embellishment
Before you begin, here are some CUSTOMIZATION IDEAS!
- Use different yarn colors! Pick your favorite (or your giftee's favorite) colors for the snowman's hat and scarf. You can make the hat in one solid shade, or change yarn color for the brim or pom-pom!
- Attach other embellishments, such as flower appliques, bows, or buttons.
- Embroider designs onto the snowman, hat, or scarf.
~ CROCHET DIRECTIONS ~
BODY & HEAD:
Note: The snowman is worked from bottom to top.Start with the snowman color (white).
R1: 6 sc in MR. (6 sts)
R2: Inc around. (12 sts)
R3: (Sc, inc) x 6. (18 sts)
R4: (Sc 2, inc) x 6. (24 sts)
R5: (Sc 3, inc) x 6. (30 sts)
R6: (Sc 4, inc) x 6. (36 sts)
R7-R11: Sc around. (36 sts)
R12: (Sc 4, dec) x 6. (30 sts)
Stuff the body and continue stuffing as you work.
R13: (Sc 3, dec) x 6. (24 sts)
R14: (Sc 2, dec) x 6. (18 sts)
R15: (Sc 5, inc) x 3. (21 sts)
R16: (Sc 6, inc) x 3. (24 sts)
R17: (Sc 7, inc) x 3. (27 sts)
R18-R21: Sc around. (27 sts)
R22: (Sc 7, dec) x 3. (24 sts)

At this point, you can insert safety eyes between R19-R20, 7 sts apart.
R24: (Sc, dec) x 6. (12 sts)

Fasten off and weave in the ends.
HAT:

Fasten off and weave in the ends. You can add a pom-pom if you’d like.
Click here for different ways to make pom-poms. (I used the fork method!)
SCARF:
Start with the scarf color (red).- Start by making a chain of how long you’d like your scarf to be. When it’s long enough, add 3 more chains. (I chained 32 and added 3 more for a total of 35 chains)
- Insert a dc in the 4th ch from the hook. Dc across. (My scarf had 32 dc)
~ FINISHING DIRECTIONS ~
- Using a yarn needle and a bit of orange yarn, sew a small triangle carrot nose on the snowman.
- Using a bit of brown and a yarn needle, sew two stick "arms" and "fingers" on the snowman's sides.
- If you made a pom-pom, sew it onto the hat. Then, put the hat on the snowman.
- Wrap the scarf around the snowman’s neck. If desired, sew a decorative button onto the scarf.
That's it, you're done!
