Ask anyone who’s interested in the property market, and they’ll all tell you about the importance of having good curb appeal. The front part of your property is the first thing that prospective buyers see, and that first impression really can play an influential role in the decision-making process. While it’s what’s beyond the front door that counts the most, it’s the front of the house that sets the tone for their opinion.
Having strong curb appeal is beneficial even if you’re not planning to sell, too. It’s simply much more pleasant and enjoyable to arrive home to a welcoming, inviting property.
You don’t need to go overboard adding things to the front of your home in a bid to make it more attractive. In most cases, simply being aware of the factors that can harm curb appeal and taking action when required is enough to keep things in check. In this post, we’ll run through a few key things to be aware of.
Neglecting Landscaping
Your property’s front yard doesn’t need to win any ‘Best Garden Awards,’ but equally, it shouldn’t look like it’s been abandoned. Even properties that are otherwise pleasant can begin to look a little disheveled if the homeowner neglects their gardening duties. Spending some time mowing the grass, trimming the hedge, and pruning the trees will help to keep your yard in a well-manicured state. Think of it as giving your front of house its routine haircut.
Unkempt Driveways and Walkways
Your front of house will take a beating from vehicles, the weather, and other factors that can cause wear-and-tear and have the front of your home looking not quite as good as it could be. At a bare minimum, we’d recommend routinely powerwashing your driveways and walkways to prevent a buildup of dirt and grime. You can also prevent future damage by working with a concrete, natural stone, or
paver resealing company, depending on the type of surface you’ve chosen for your driveway/walkway. Quickly taking care of any damage, such as cracks, can also prevent further damage and keep the appearance of your home’s front in tip-top condition.
Outdated Windows
It’s easy to overlook the windows, which, because they’re transparent, many homeowners fail to realize can have a big impact on the appearance of a property. If you’re one of those people, then we’d encourage you to
deep clean your windows and see for yourself how much of a difference it makes to the appearance of your home. Upgrading to new windows can have an even more profound impact, offering greater clarity that can give your home a more modern aesthetic.
Clutter
Finally, as with the interior part of your property, having
too much clutter in the exterior part of your home can impact appearance. Having a clearout gives your front yard room to breathe, and gives space for the other front-of-house items (such as your pavers, new windows, and well-kempt trees) to shine. Old decorative ornaments, watering cans, and too many plant containers will be better off thrown away.
