I crocheted a Megaman Helmet!

Hello my fellow crocheters,

Are there any Megaman fans out there? If so, you might find this project of mine to look pretty familiar!

This was a special request from my husband, who rarely asks for anything. When I pressed him to throw out some ideas of what he's like me to crochet for him, he told me... a Megaman helmet.

I'll be honest, I was a bit dumfounded at first. I'm not familiar with Megaman, but after seeing a reference picture of said helmet, I wondered why anyone would want such a thing.  Then again, I had to remind myself that this same man asked me with all seriousness to crochet him this Magikarp hat five years ago.

So, it wasn't really for me to judge... thus I went ahead and whipped one up!

What do you think? Is the likeness there?

I will say, I did completely freehand this hat without jotting down pattern notes. Thus, I apologize for not having a pattern to share with you this time around!

I used Hobbii's new yarn line, Udon yarn. It's super bulky, making any project work up FAST! I began with making the crown of the hat, measuring it out while referring to my Hat Sizing Chart to make it a fitting adult size for my husband's head.

After finishing the main beanie section, I crocheted the separate parts of the beanie, like the round discs on both sides of the head, and the light blue stripe going over the middle of the helmet. Once those pieces were done, I simply positioned them onto the main hat to check for placement before stitching them down securely.

Pretty straightforward, yeah?

Anyways, the most rewarding part was seeing my husband's reaction. He was pleased with his hat, and for that, I made him model it for me!

Well, that's it for this crocheted Megaman helmet! I hope you enjoyed this blog post, whether it be reading about the process I took to create the hat, or to browse through pics of this goofy project...

Drop a comment below to let me know your thoughts, if you have made any character hats yourself (pics please!), if you'd like to see any related projects in the future, or whatever else comes to mind!

Best wishes,
