Tiny Baby Yoda Amigurumi Doll · Free Crochet Pattern & Video Tutorial

Any Star Wars fans in the house?

Well, you're in for a treat.  Here's the quickest, easiest, tiniest little Baby Yoda doll you can crochet!  And not to mention... he's cute, too!

I freehanded this amigurumi while filming because I was trying to whip up a gift for my sweet neighbor's little boy, who loves Star Wars!  I was happy with the result, so I thought I'd share the pattern with you.

This pattern is...

  • Beginner-friendly
  • Quick to work up
  • Pocket-sized and easy to carry around
  • Great for using up scrap yarns (in other words, an awesome "stashbuster"!)
  • Comes with a full video tutorial on the Sweet Softies YouTube channel!

This isn't my first Star Wars themed amigurumi design.  It's not my first Baby Yoda design, either!  In fact, here's the previous version I made, which is a larger and more detailed Grogu.  His clothing can be removed, allowing for some dress-up play.  If you'd like to make him too, check it out because this is also a free Baby Yoda pattern on my blog!

Make this project for...

Anyone who'd love this adorable, little doll!  It is perfect for both kids and adults alike.  Little hands will find this small kokeshi doll to be fun to hold and play with.  This Baby Yoda is also great to gift as a collectible to older children or adults who are fans of the Star Wars franchise.  It can be displayed as an art doll, or stowed away in pockets to bring with you on adventures!

FO with a long tail for sewing to the head later.

Body

Use brown yarn.
R1: In MR, sc 6. (6 sts)
R2: Inc around. (12 sts)
R3: (Sc, inc) x 6. (18 sts)
R4-R7: Sc around. (18 sts)

R9: (Sc 3, dec) x 3. (12 sts)
FO with a long tail for sewing to the head later. Stuff the body firmly.

Arms (x2)

Note: Arms and legs are made using the “i-cord” crochet technique. Click here for the i-cord video tutorial.
Start with green yarn.
Set up the i-cord: Ch 3. Insert hook into 2nd ch from hook, YO, pull up a loop, insert hook into next ch, YO, and pull up a loop. (3 loops on hook)
Switch to brown yarn.
R1: Drop 2 loops from hook, but hold onto them tightly with your non-hook hand so that they do not come undone. YO, pull through loop on hook. Insert hook into first dropped loop, YO, pull through. (2 loops on hook.) Insert hook into second dropped loop, YO, and pull through. (3 loops on hook) Switch to shirt-colored yarn (green).
R2-R4: Repeat R1.
To finish, YO and pull through all 3 loops on hook. FO with a long tail for sewing later.  Pull all yarn ends in towards the top of the arm to hide them.

  1. If you haven't already, attach 6mm plastic safety eyes to the head between R6-R7, 5 sts apart.
  2. Sew the ears to both sides of the head. You may pinch the ends of the ears when sewing them down, if you'd like the ears to have a crease.
  3. Sew the arms to both sides of the body.
  4. Make sure the head and body are both well-stuffed before you sew them together.
  5. Lastly, to create a neat edge between the head and neck, use the surface slip stitch method (click here for video tutorial) and brown yarn between the color change.
  6. Weave in all yarn ends.

Congratulations on finishing your Tiny Baby Yoda!
