Sakura Kimono Bunny Free Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

Hello my fellow crocheters,

I'm so excited to share with you my amigurumi design, the Sakura Kimono Bunny!

Design Features

  • Traditional kimono design
  • Removable obi sash to tie around doll's waist
  • Sakura flower head accessories
  • Feet with sewn details to create the sandals
  • Legs and body crocheted together in one piece to decrease sewing of pieces
  • Double-layered, no-sew ears to allow for the use of two colors

I designed this sweet bunny following a few Japanese-inspired creations this year, which you may have seen floating around on my blog!  After having my baby last year, I have been motivated to get more in touch with my Japanese heritage.  It namely started with learning the language from my grandfather so that I could use it with my baby girl during play, but it has branched out to more cultural factors too.

Below are some of the Japanese-inspired designs that I recently created!

The Sakura Kimono Bunny makes such a lovely, handmade gift.  I think children and adults alike will adore this doll!  She's suitable for kids to play with, but at the same time, can also serve as a lovely art doll for display.

This design is also fun to customize with different yarn colors!  I just can't wait to see finished dolls made from this pattern of mine, because I know you'll all come up with some really beautiful color combinations!

Watch it in action!  Here's the pattern preview video for the Sakura Kimono Bunny.

Yarn Used

For this project, I used Furls' Whims Merino Yarn in worsted weight in the colors white, pink, and lavender.  This was my first time working with this beautiful yarn, and I honestly had such an amazing experience!  Whims Merino feels so soft and luxurious that it made crocheting feel like a real treat.  My fingers definitely thanked me for using this yarn!  It also has amazing stitch definition, which gives a cool effect for amigurumi because the texture of your stitches stand our clearly.  Even though I used very simple stitches, such as mostly single crochets and double crochets, the stitches still popped beautifully!
