DIY Miniature "Fine Art" Frames: A Crochet & Wax Seal Mashup

Have you ever wanted to turn your crochet scraps into "fine art"?

While discovering a "new to me" hobby of crafting with wax seal stamps, I decided to add a touch of crochet in. It came out surprisingly adorable, and I just have to share it with you!

If you have a mountain of tiny crochet flowers, appliques, or scraps that are too pretty to throw away but too small to use, this is the project for you! I finally found the perfect way to turn those tiny stitches into "fine art" using a frame wax seal stamp!

These little masterpieces are quick to make and would look incredible as refrigerator magnets, unique keychains, or even decorative flair for your packaging.

Materials Needed

  • Frame Wax Seal Stamp

  • Hot Glue Gun & Clear GlueI prefer hot glue over traditional wax for this because it’s more durable for everyday items like keychains.

  • Micro Crochet Items - I used the free 1-minute crochet flower pattern with weight 1 (fingering) yarn and a 2.25mm crochet hook.

  • Gold Metallic Marker - Gives it the vintage, gilded look!

  • Parchment paper or a silicone craft mat

  • Scissors

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prep Your Crochet Centerpiece

Ensure your tiny crochet flower is finished and ends are woven in. Since we are using a frame stamp, make sure the flower is small enough to fit within the "opening" of your specific stamp design.

2. The Glue Drop

Place your crochet flower onto your silicone mat. Carefully dispense a circle of hot glue directly over the center of the flower. You want enough glue to cover the flower and spread out to the edges of the stamp.

3. The Stamp

Gently press your frame wax seal stamp into the center of the hot glue.

Tip: Let it sit for at least 30-60 seconds. Because hot glue holds heat longer than wax, pulling the stamp away too early can cause "strings" or a blurry impression.

4. The Reveal

Once the glue is completely cool to the touch, gently peel the stamp away. You’ll be left with a clear, embossed frame with your crochet flower perfectly preserved in the center.

5. Adding the Finishing Golden Touch

Take your gold metallic marker and carefully run it along the raised edges of the frame. This highlights the intricate details of the stamp and makes the clear glue look like a heavy, vintage gold frame.

6. Trim the Sides

Using a sharp pair of scissors, trim the sides of the frame for a neat and tidy look.

What can you do with them?

The possibilities are endless! Because hot glue is slightly flexible, these are much heartier than wax. You can make:

  • Magnets: Glue a small disc magnet to the back. These look adorable as fridge magnets!

  • Keychains: Use a heated yarn needle to poke a hole in the top for a jump ring.

  • Stationery: Use them to seal envelopes for your fellow yarn-lovers.

  • Decor: Decorate the walls of doll houses for a whimsical, dreamy look!
