Meet Yumi's Night Guardian! This is a very special amigurumi design of mine, and I'm happy to share it with you.
Yumi’s Night Guardian is a dragon ragdoll snuggler designed with plush yarn. This doll features a flat, floppy body and is the perfect size for little ones to snuggle and cuddle. This soft and velvety stuffed animal will turn into your child’s favorite emotional support amigurumi. Make it as an heirloom birthday gift, for a baby shower gift, Christmas holiday present, or as a craft fair / market prep product. This pattern works up well with chenille velvet or blanket yarn.
About the Pattern
- Size: 14 inches from horns to tail
- Suitable for familiar beginners or intermediate crocheters
- Materials list and stitches/terms used can be found on the pattern page
The Story Behind the Pattern
My short video below shares with you why this pattern is so special to me, and how it came about during the multi-day power outage resulting from Seattle's historic cyclonic storms in November 2024.
Recommended Yarn
This pattern was designed with super bulky weight chenille velvet yarn. I used Hobbii Toucan Sprinkle yarn, which has specks of secondary color "sprinkled" into the main color! I love how whimsical and enchanting the end result is. There are lots of fun color options for the Toucan Sprinkle line; I recommend taking a look! As usual, this chenille velvet yarn is a quality yarn that results in a very plush, squishy, and soft amigurumi. A super bulky weight blanket yarn can also be tried out for this pattern!
What I would NOT recommend is a thinner weight yarn (such as worsted weight or DK) in cotton, acrylic, or wool fibers. The reason for that is because this snuggler would come out stiffer and too small to really "snuggle" with!
Uses
- Plush toy for children to play with
- Security stuffy to comfort little ones (makes a great "emotional support amigurumi"!)
- Prop for photoshoots (this dragon is very posable and great for newborn photoshoots)
- Nursery room decor
- Selling at craft fairs, markets, or boutiques
- Birthday gift, baby shower gift, or Christmas holiday gift for babies, toddlers, and kids
- Christmas stocking stuffer
