4 effective storage methods for your home

Does clutter constantly threaten to take over your living space? Do you dream of opening cupboards and finding all of your belongings neatly organised? Fortunately, you can achieve this with just a few clever storage methods, transforming your home from chaotic to calm.

Here are four of our favourite methods that you can use throughout your home.

Categorise everything

You’d be surprised how much additional space you can free up by categorising things together. This works well for those drawers that contain random items that mysteriously find their way into the wrong place.

Sort items into piles of things to keep, donate, and discard. Let go of any unused or unwanted items as this will open the door to a more organised and functional space. Marie Kondo has some great tips for doing this, which are useful if you’re someone who struggles to get rid.

Once you have everything together, you can then look to place them in dividers or storage containers.

Storage containers

Storing your belongings doesn’t just mean shoving them somewhere out of eyesight. Place things you don’t use regularly in clear containers so that you’re able to keep them safe and identify them easily when needed.

Stackable bins are ideal for cabinets and wardrobes, making use of the space as best as possible. You should also use over-the-door organisers for maximising unused wall space – this is particularly useful for hanging accessories like handbags and belts.

Multipurpose furniture

When looking to buy furniture for the home, think about how it could also be used for clearing space. Multi-functional furniture is the perfect solution, especially ottomans with hidden storage or beds with built-in drawers.

These still add that wow factor to the home but also provide a means of hiding away personal effects. Additionally, they are much easier to clean and maintain, without the need for fresh coats of paint or special products to preserve the finish.

Fitted furniture

An effective and stylish way of including storage in the home is the have fitted furniture installed in your rooms. Unlike off-the-shelf pieces, bespoke furniture utilises every nook and cranny of a room, even those that may be awkward.

You could opt for shelving and cabinets around corners or alcoves to store prized possessions and books, or wardrobes that can be used to efficiently store all of your clothes and accessories.

If your kitchen could do with a little spruce up, a fitted kitchen can provide that flexibility to make the most of the area. From built-in storage for utensils and ingredients to fitted appliances that slot seamlessly into the unit.
