I've been on a Ragdoll Lovey kick! Previously, I designed the Cuddle Bunny Ragdoll Lovey and the Elephant Ragdoll Lovey. I'm in love iwth the (almost) completely no-sew design, and am working on more. This time, I'm branching out to a fantasy creature... the DRAGON!
This security blanket has a beautifully-textured set of wings (worked in one piece) that is attached to its arms, and then sewn to the back of the body. I also had fun designing its little tail, which has a spade tip!
Yarn Used
This design is easy and works up quickly with super bulky yarn and a large, 5mm hook. It looks great with blanket yarn, polyester, chenille, or velvet yarn, though you can use other types of fibers too! The sample was created with Hobbii's Honey Bunny Yarn, perfect for a soft and cuddly toy. I'm a big fan of this yarn after having worked with a variety of similar yarns from different brands, and can safely say that it's my new favorite yarn for amigurumi.
If you'd like, another good substitute is Baby Snuggle Yarn, which I do use interchangeably with the Honey Bunny! They are both so similar in texture and feel. Check out my Baby Snuggle Yarn Review for more information about that yarn!
Customizing & Gifting
Customization is easy with this pattern. You can use different yarn colors, and the design itself is unisex and gender neutral, suitable for both boys and girls. Kids will adore snuggling up to this sweet doll!
You can even turn this design into a dinosaur for the kiddos who love dinos! I can see it being a T-rex if the wings are omitted, and if the "horns" are sewn as a row of spikes from the top of the head and down the backside of the body.
This Dragon Lovey makes a great craft fair product, as well as a birthday gift, holiday gift, baby shower gift for expecting moms, or newborn, infant, and toddler children. I know a lot of little ones (mine included) who are obsessed with dragons! This is the perfect gift for them!
Size
Its size is quite standard for a lovey, measuring approximately 15 inches (38 cm) in height from head to toe. Its wingspan is 13 inches (33 cm) across.
Level
The level for this project is suitable for a familiar beginner or a familiar beginner or intermediate crocheter, as it involves familiarity with the stitches below, changing yarn colors, attaching yarn, and sewing parts together.
