5 Ways to Boost Your Confidence this Year

Feeling a bit unsure of yourself lately? You’re definitely not alone. Confidence isn’t something you either have or you don’t. It comes and goes, and thankfully, you can give it a boost whenever you need to. Whether you’ve got a big event coming up or just want to feel better in your day-to-day, here are five easy ways to build your confidence back up.

Look after yourself properly

This might sound a bit basic, but honestly, the way you treat yourself shows up in how you carry yourself. If you’re constantly running on empty, skipping meals, or barely sleeping, it’s no wonder your confidence takes a knock. Try getting into a bit of a routine that actually works for you. Eat properly, get some sleep, move your body a little and drink more water than coffee. When you start feeling better physically, it has a knock-on effect with how you feel about yourself.

Tidy up your surroundings

It sounds simple, but your space can really affect your mindset. If you’re living or working in chaos, it’s harder to feel calm and in control. Give your space a quick tidy. Make your bed, clear that desk, chuck out the random bits you don’t need anymore. Even a ten-minute reset can make things feel more manageable. When your environment feels good, you feel more put together and confident too.

Don’t ignore what your body’s telling you

Confidence can dip when you don’t feel fully yourself. Sometimes that’s tiredness or stress, but sometimes it’s something a bit more physical. For example, if you’ve noticed you’re struggling to follow conversations or keep up in noisy places, your hearing could be playing a part. It’s worth getting checked, and if needed, you can always find hearing aids that are comfortable, discreet and actually make a huge difference. Taking small steps like this shows you’re prioritising yourself, and that’s a real confidence booster.

Remind yourself what you’re good at

We’re so quick to pick ourselves apart, but way too slow to give ourselves credit. Take five minutes to think about things you’ve done recently that you’re proud of. Maybe you helped a friend, nailed something at work, or even just kept going on a tough day. Write them down if that helps. When you actively remind yourself of your wins, big or small, you start to shift your focus in a positive direction. You’ll find yourself walking a little taller, speaking up a bit more, and generally backing yourself again.

Fake it until it feels natural

It might sound cheesy, but acting confident can actually help you be confident. Hold your head up, make eye contact, speak clearly. Even if you’re not totally feeling it inside, people respond to how you carry yourself. And the more you practise, the more it becomes your new normal. Start small. Say yes to something you’d usually shy away from. Take that compliment instead of brushing it off. Little by little, it adds up.

Confidence is something you build, not something you wait around for. Start with small changes, stick with them, and you’ll notice the shift before you know it.
