You Can Create A Wonderful Bedroom, Even When You're Limited On Space

Bedrooms aren’t as big as they used to be. Indeed, research shows that bedrooms these days are around 25% smaller compared to in the 20th century. Why is this? Well, simply put, there’s a lower level of land available and building a home today is more expensive than it used to be. Thus, we get homes with smaller rooms. Of course, a way around this would be to custom build a home just for your family. But if you can’t afford this option then you might need to make the most of the room you have.

Look Into Different Storage Options

The first thing that we’re going to look into are the different storage options that you can consider for a small bedroom. It might be tough to fit any kind of pre-made storage such as free-standing shelving units into the space depending on the shape and how much room you actually have. But, if you want one of these, then you’re going to need to look into a company that offers bespoke bedroom storage, as this way you know it will fit in the space that you have available.

You can also consider doing things like getting a large chest to put your items in, and then you have the top of this to also place things on if needed. We’re sure that you will manage to get a chest of drawers into your room with your bed, though you might not have room for too much else. If you’ve got an old chest, you can always upcycle it to make it work better for your space rather than just having it as it is.

Get A Bed That Suits You

Arguably the most important part of any bedroom is getting a bed that suits you and your needs. If you haven’t already got one of these, you need to be looking into the different types of beds, including both size and storage opportunity. If you are going to be creating the room for a child who has friends over quite a lot, then looking into trundle beds is likely going to be an ideal option here.

Or, you might want to go with a regular small double, maybe even a single depending on the space available and what your priorities are. The important thing is that you are not just purchasing the first bed that you see, and instead need to shop around to find the best deal for what you’re looking for. Don’t forget it’s not just the frame either, you need to get a comfortable mattress in order to allow for a good night of rest.

What Decorations Do You Want?

Next, think about the different decorations that you want in your room. This could include options like accessories that can help the room feel more beautiful without being overcluttered. The best part is that these accessories don’t need to take up any more room. For instance, you might want to think about adding some art to the walls for splashes of life and colour.

Blackout Blinds vs Curtains

Another point worth thinking about is the type of curtains or blinds that you are going to add to the bedroom. Blackout blinds are a smart choice because they take up less space but they are still perfect for blocking out any light pollution coming in through the windows. This is particularly useful if your home is in a built-up urban area or if there’s a spotlight near your bedroom window. If you can avoid curtains completely as these will always protrude into the room and take up more space overall.

Make Use Of Higher Space

You may not have a lot of floor space in your bedroom and that’s okay because there’s another option worth exploring and that’s the higher space in the room or the air space around the room. With air space, you can ensure that you have plenty of room for your books, toys or any other items that you need to store. You can do this by adding shelves to the room. However, be careful you don’t add too many or it will feel as though the walls are closing in a little.

Do You Need A Desk?

Next, you should make sure that you are thinking about adding a desk to your room. This is particularly important if you are creaitng a child’s bedroom because it’s important that they have somewhere that they can play and work or study. If you have a small room, then you might think that there’s going to be no room for a desk. The best way to deal with this is with a built in desk. Using a built in desk, you’ll have more than enough space to study or even play games. You can also explore a sliding desk which fits snugly underneath the bed and pulls out when required.

Consider The Lighting Options

Finally, you should make sure that you are considering lighting options in your room. Why is lighting important? The right lighting will make sure that a room feels far larger overall. For instance, you might want to think about adding sunken in spotlights. Spotlight style lights will light a room equally instead of creating shadow in corners which is always going to make a room look smaller overall. Be aware that adding lighting like this is going to be a complex job and you do need to have the right training and knowledge. If you don’t then it can be a disaster. A skilled electrician can help you here.

So, there you go then. These are some of the things that you can do to create a wonderful bedroom, even when you are limited on space. Just because you don’t have masses of room like some people, doesn’t mean that you can’t still create a wonderful space for you to sleep in. It’s all about what you do with it, not the space itself.
